The Shang and Zhou Dynasties belonged to Jingchu, and the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period belonged to central Guizhou. Formerly known as Dayong, it is the seat of Gu Yong County. As early as the late primitive society, ancestors began to thrive on both sides of the Lishui River. In the Yao and Shun era, "Shun Fang fought around Chongshan to become that pretty", so there was a saying of "that pretty" in the history of China.
In 22 1 year BC, Qin Shihuang set up a county, and Zhangjiajie area belongs to Cigu County, located in Guantaping County, Cili County. In Liyuan Valley, the first administrative region of Hunan Province was established, which was one of the 36 counties in China at that time. Today, Zhangjiajie has jurisdiction over two districts and two counties. [7]
In the Western Han Dynasty, in addition to setting up counties, it also sealed the country and implemented the staggered system of counties. In the fifth year of Emperor Gaozu of the Western Han Dynasty (in the first month of the lunar calendar in 202 BC), when Liu Bang was in office, he ordered that Qianzhong County be divided into Wuling County, Cigu County into Liling County and Chongxian County (including Yongding County, Wulingyuan County and Sangzhi County).
During the Three Kingdoms period, Sun Xiu, Emperor Wu Jing, saw the opening of the cave in Song Liang and thought it auspicious, so he changed Songliang Mountain to Tianmen Mountain and Wuling County to Tianmen County. [7]
During the Tang dynasty, the whole country changed to ten roads. In the fourth year of Wude (62 1 year, the new fourth year of the lunar calendar), Emperor Gaozu Li Yuan ordered the establishment of two counties, namely Lizhou and Liyang, which were subordinate to Shannan Road and governed six counties, while Cili and Chongyi (now Yongding, Wulingyuan and Sangzhi) were under his jurisdiction.
During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period (907-960 AD), the whole territory of Zhangjiajie was under the jurisdiction of the State of Chu.
During the Song Dynasty, in order to strengthen centralization, the Song Dynasty reorganized the whole country into twenty-three roads, with government, state and army under them. In the first year of Gande (963 AD, the year of Guihai in the lunar calendar), Zhao Kuangyin, Song Taizu ordered that the whole territory of Zhangjiajie today be placed under Liyang County, known as Cili County, and Anfu Village was established in Sangzhi County, Wukou Village was established in Dayong County, Yongding County, and Suokou Village was established in Wulingyuan District. In the Yuan Dynasty, eleven provinces were established in China. In the 14th year of Yuan Dynasty (A.D. 1277, the year of Ding Chou in the lunar calendar), four counties under the jurisdiction of the Governor's Office of Lizhou Road were changed (Cili is one of them, that is, the whole territory of Zhangjiajie today), and Marshal's Office of Maogang was set up in Maogang, Yongding County today.
During the Ming Dynasty, the Ming Dynasty abolished the Zhongshu Province in the Yuan Dynasty, set up thirteen departments to undertake propaganda and deployment, and implemented provincial-level civil affairs and financial management. In the second year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1369, the first year of the lunar calendar), Jiangci Pear Prefecture was changed to Dayong County, which belonged to Pear Prefecture. [7]
In the Qing Dynasty, there were 23 provinces in China, including prefectures, prefectures and counties. In the eighth year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1730, Gengxu year in the lunar calendar), Sangzhi and Maogang Tusi successively returned to the local government, and Lizhou was promoted to a municipality directly under the central government, governing Anxiang, Shimen and Cili counties. At the same time, Yongding and Jiuxi were abolished and Anfu County was established (Yongding and Wulingyuan, Cili and Sangzhi were all counties at that time).
During the Republic of China, there were three roads and sixty counties in the province, and then the "administrative supervision department" was set up in the abandoned road. In the fifth year of the Republic of China (A.D. 19 16, the year of Chen Bing in the lunar calendar), Wuling Road in Hunan was abandoned, and Dayong, Sangzhi and Cili counties were placed under Chen Yuan Road. Hunan province has been reorganized into 10 administrative supervision areas, and Dayong and Sangzhi belong to the fourth supervision area, with the Commissioner's office located in Changde. [7]

From 1988, Cili County was under the jurisdiction of Changde District, Dayong County and Sangzhi County were under the jurisdiction of Yongshun District from1June 949 to1August 952, and then under the jurisdiction of Xiangxi Miao Autonomous Prefecture and Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. 1On April 4th, 994, the State Council approved the renaming of Dayong City as Zhangjiajie City, named after Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.
The origin of the name
"Boundary" has two meanings in a city: one is territorial boundary, and the other is high mountain. The Daoguang edition of Yongding County Records in Qing Dynasty wrote: "Wuxuxi originated in Zhangjiajie." The Republic of China edition of Cili County Records reads: "Suoxi originated in Zhangjiajie." Zhangjiajie here refers to the surrounding area of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park today. The name Zhangjiajie was first seen in the preface to Zhang's Genealogy in the fourth year of Chongzhen in Ming Dynasty (163 1). The author of the preface is the sixth generation grandson of Zhang Wancong, the governor of Yongding. During the Hongzhi period of the Ming Dynasty (1488- 1506), the court saw that Zhang Wancong had made meritorious service in guarding the country and gave him the "land of mountains and forests" in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park as a fief. So he went up the mountain with his family to run his business.
In the third year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty (1630), Zhang Zaihong, the sixth generation grandson of Zhang Wancong, was given an official position here. This area became Zhang's hereditary territory and was called "Zhangjiajie". By the end of the 20th century, descendants of Zhang had lived here for generations 17, with a population of nearly 1,000. Another way of saying it is: According to legend, Sean, Liu Hou of the Western Han Dynasty, lived here in seclusion, and was buried in the Four Gates of Water Ring after his death, so he was called Zhangjiajie for a long time.
1958, where a state-owned forest farm was established. Because the land is located in the former site of Zhangjiajie Farmers' Association, the forest farm is named Zhangjiajie. 1978, Zhangjiajie Forest Farm took the lead in opening the prelude to Hunan's tourism development. 1982, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park was established, and Zhangjiajie Village where Zhang lived was managed by the park. In view of the high popularity and reputation of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park at home and abroad, Dayong City was renamed as Zhangjiajie City with the approval of the State Council on 1994.
