National defense education mainly includes national defense theory, national defense spirit, national defense history, national defense legal system, national defense system, national defense mobilization, national defense economy, national defense diplomacy, national defense sports, national defense common sense and so on.

As far as its content is concerned, it includes two aspects:

First, it belongs to national defense theory and national defense spirit education. National defense theory mainly includes national defense, war and peace, peace and development, national defense and economic construction, national defense policy and road, and politics, economy, military, culture, sports and diplomacy related to national defense.

The spirit of national defense includes patriotism, revolutionary heroism, self-sacrifice and dedication, patriotism and martial spirit, collectivism and internationalism of United struggle, hard struggle and self-improvement.

The second is national defense knowledge and skills education. There are mainly knowledge of national defense history, pilots' territory, national armed forces, national defense science and technology, sports, law, diplomacy and other aspects, as well as skills such as the use of conventional weapons, military techniques and tactics, battlefield rescue, air raid prevention and "three defenses".

National defense education is a social activity to defend national sovereignty, territorial integrity and security, resist the construction and struggle of foreign aggression and subversive threats, and impart ideas, knowledge and skills related to national defense to the whole people. The important content of national defense construction includes all kinds of social activities to enhance the national defense thought, knowledge, skills and physical quality of the whole people and help form and improve the national defense concept and ability.

National defense education is a basic education for all citizens, involving all aspects, rich in content and wide in scope. The integrity of national defense construction determines the content of national defense education. Modern national defense not only refers to the construction of troops, weapons and equipment, battlefields and strategic locations, but also is closely related to the country's economic strength, political situation, national psychology, educational level and population quality.
