Guided by the strategic needs of national, industrial and local development in the field of civil engineering construction, this discipline carries out the discipline construction idea of "integration of knowledge and practice and characteristic development", and continuously refines the discipline direction around Ningbo's new urbanization construction and industrial transformation and upgrading, with the goal of serving major engineering construction. This discipline now has five related specialties, including structural engineering, geotechnical and tunnel engineering, building energy saving and energy application technology, disaster prevention and mitigation engineering and protection engineering, and road and bridge crossing river engineering, and has formed the development direction of five key disciplines, including key technologies of large-scale bridge construction and maintenance, structural durability of marine engineering, geotechnical engineering, civil structure prefabrication and assembly technology, building environment and energy saving technology.

Civil engineering is a first-class discipline in the 13th Five-Year Plan of Zhejiang Province and a first-class key discipline in Ningbo. Two disciplines, the "Twelfth Five-Year" key discipline construction project of colleges and universities, supported the selection of civil engineering specialty into the first batch of first-class undergraduate majors, national characteristic majors and the "Thirteenth Five-Year" dominant majors in Zhejiang Province, and passed the national professional certification (evaluation) on 20 15. The master's degree program of civil water conservancy is the first batch of master's degree awarding programs in our school.

This discipline has built a series of discipline platforms at or above the provincial level, such as Zhejiang Civil Engineering Industrial Construction Engineering Technology Research Center, State Key Laboratory of Geotechnical Mechanics and Engineering, Engineering Soft Soil Experimental Center of Ningbo Institute of Technology, and Collaborative Innovation Center for Construction, Use and Maintenance of Ningbo Engineering Structure Industry, and established the "China-Central and Eastern European Urban Infrastructure Construction and Investment Research Center", which is the director unit of Ningbo Geotechnical Society. The second "China Ningbo-Central and Eastern Europe Infrastructure Education and Investment Cooperation Forum" was successfully held, and the "Belt and Road" platform for scientific research cooperation in civil and traffic engineering was established. With the establishment of provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers such as mechanics experimental center and architectural engineering experimental center by the central and local governments, MTS multi-channel loading system has been established in the construction of civil engineering research laboratory, and a number of advanced structural test equipment and facilities have been set up. More than 30 million yuan was invested to build a shaking table laboratory, and large-scale shaking table equipment with three directions and six degrees of freedom was purchased and put into use, and a 2000t long-axis compression-shear experimental machine was built, which improved the test ability of large-scale high-strength components. The geotechnical engineering experimental center has been built and improved, and the experimental research ability of engineering characteristics of coastal marine soft soil in this area has been improved.

Completed the experiment of building green building materials. Relying on the above experimental platform, a strong practical scientific research productivity has been formed, which provides an important guarantee for improving the scientific research ability of the discipline; In the fields of key technologies of large-scale bridge construction and maintenance, structural durability of marine engineering, prefabrication and assembly technology of civil structures, geotechnical and underground structural engineering, it has the ability to fully serve the needs of industry and local major engineering construction.
