Information about lizards
Ze monitor lizard is basically a large monitor lizard that lives in swamp areas, especially mangrove areas. Its body length can exceed two meters, which is very huge. But because it is not picky about food, it can live in swamp areas where large animals can't survive. Ze monitor lizard can eat any meat that can be swallowed, such as fish, shrimp, crab, bird, egg, lizard, mouse, frog, snake and so on. Even dead bodies or garbage. This character endows them with extraordinary viability. They adapt well under artificial breeding. Indonesia's farms sell thousands of Ze monitor lizards to pet markets or leather markets at home and abroad every year, which is also considered as an economic animal.

Ze monitor lizard is the most docile of all monitor lizards, belonging to semi-aquatic diurnal lizard. Its larvae have excellent body color, but their body color tends to be dim when they grow up, but there are still some differences. The feeding environment is similar to that of the Nile monitor lizard, which has a high demand for water. Food can be fed to common crickets, breadworms, mice, eggs and so on. Its larvae grow rapidly, so it is important to supplement calcium powder and vitamins once a week.

Males are also larger than females. Males are adults when they are above 100- 130 cm, while females are 50- 120 cm. Female lizards will lay 6-25 soft-shelled eggs in pre-dug caves 4-6 weeks after mating, and then bury them. After 2.5-3.5 months, it can hatch and the baby lizard is born.

Iguanas, literally, refer to spiny lizards and iguanas. There are not many species, among which the most famous ones naturally belong to sea iguanas and land iguanas in the Galapagos Islands. But for pet lizards, the green iguana is the most popular lizard and the largest iguana.

Green iguana is a Japanese arboreal lizard, which is omnivorous. They can accept animal foods such as crickets, breadworms and eggs in infancy, and turn into plant foods in adulthood, where they can feed vegetables and fruits. In the wild, green iguanas mainly inhabit the forest canopy near streams, so water basins are indispensable equipment in the breeding environment. The skin is tough, the skin is tough. Scalding accidents often occur. The long tail will be broken to protect itself in an emergency, so be careful when playing again. But the end of the paragraph will regenerate, so it won't cause permanent damage. Because of the great demand in the pet market, there are large-scale professional farms in Florida and South America, which can be said to be the largest lizards.

The male green iguana has a thigh hole in its hind leg, and its neck is much larger than that of the female, and there is a large round scale under the ear hole, which is also much larger than that of the female. Mating is carried out in trees. Pregnant female lizards will cover the caves dug out of the spawning space and then turn a blind eye to the egg nests, so the hatched lizards will not care.

Be self-reliant from an early age. However, female lizards sometimes dig more caves to distract predators. Green iguanas lay a lot of eggs, usually 30-50 eggs in a nest, and it takes 75-90 days to hatch. It takes two years for a newborn lizard to reach adulthood. If properly reared, green iguanas can live for more than ten years.

Scientific name Cordylus cataphractus

South Africa

Habitat desert rock area

Body length 15-20cm.

The optimum temperature is 2 1-29 degrees Celsius.

Iguanas get their name from the way they avoid enemies similar to mammals. They are small lizards that move during the day. They usually gather in rocks in rocky desert areas as a family. When they meet predators, they will quickly rush into cracks and hide. If they can't escape, they will put their tails in their mouths and roll their bodies into a prickly ball.

Iguanas are very docile, easy to raise and can adapt to the artificial environment quickly, but they are a little more timid than ordinary lizards. It's best not to play with them until they are fully adapted. They are mainly insects and invertebrates, and can feed crickets and breadworms, especially termites. Termites are the most nutritious food if they can be found. Adults can also feed milk. The feeding environment is sand.

It is difficult to distinguish between male and female iguanas, but because the price is not high, 3-5 iguanas can be raised in groups and naturally paired. Males usually have big heads, distinct patterns and obvious femoral holes, but the accuracy is lower than other lizards. Females can directly give birth to one larva at a time, only once a year, which is a typical viviparous lizard. The newborn larvae are wrapped in a transparent film. It can mature and reproduce in about three years. Every time the larvae can live with their parents, there is no danger of being eaten, because iguanas are gregarious animals, but they live in groups with their families. If they are strangers from outside, they are in danger of being attacked.

After artificial breeding, iguanas will gradually lose their self-defense instinct of curling into balls. Most of the individuals seen in the market are wild individuals, because the number of artificial reproduction is too low and has no economic value. In addition, iguanas are the only interesting lizards, even suitable for beginners.

Scientific name Tiliqua scincoides

Australia and new guinea.

Habitat is dry grassland and forest area.

Body length is 45-60 cm.

The optimum temperature is 22-28 degrees Celsius.

The shape of the blue-tongued lizard is not only less fierce than that of ordinary lizards, but also more funny. Coupled with the special blue Lickitung, it naturally attracted many fans. There are six subspecies of blue-tongued lizards in Australia. The most common subspecies is Tiliqua s. scincoides, commonly known as eastern blue-tongued lizard or blue-tongued lizard with twill, which is mainly distributed in Australia, Indonesia and New Guinea with a small amount. There are many nationalities and large numbers. It can be regarded as the most common lizard in Australia and often appears in the backyard. Blue-tongued lizards are lively and easy to domesticate. As long as it keeps in touch, it will soon lose its vigilance and become very docile. It is a lizard suitable for beginners as pets. If properly preserved, it can generally live for more than 20 years. A similar subspecies is Tiliqua s. intermedia, which is called northern blue-tongued lizard. Its appearance is very similar to that of oriental species, and it is mainly distinguished by dark spots behind the eyes.

Blue-tongued lizards need more ground space because they are not good at climbing because of their short limbs. A four-foot feeding box is enough to raise a pair of adults, and sterile soil is suitable for them to dig their nests. The temperature is about 28 degrees Celsius during the day and 23 degrees at night. The temperature under the lamp must be kept at about 33 degrees Celsius. They are lizards who can drink water, so they need to put a basin to provide drinking water. Blue-tongued lizards are omnivores. Generally, live baits such as fruits and vegetables, crickets, breadworms, etc. are acceptable, and if you eat more, you need to supplement calcium regularly every week. Unlike ordinary lizards, blue-tongued lizards can eat dead insects or mice without live bait.

It's easy to distinguish between males and females. The male's head is much wider than the female's. The blue tongue lizard is a viviparous lizard. After being stimulated by low temperature in winter, they will mate in early spring. A production box is arranged in the feeding box, and the box is covered with slightly wet newspapers or dried aquatic plants. After mating for 3-5 months, the female lizard will give birth to about 10- 15 baby lizards.

Scientific name Dracaena draconis

South America, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Guyana.

Habitat: rivers and swamps.

Body length head and tail 120- 150 cm.

The optimum temperature is 20-26 degrees Celsius.

The crocodile lizard in South America is a strange lizard to most people. Although widely distributed in South America, there are many wild populations, but because of strict protection, even in Europe, America and Japan, it is rare in the pet market.

Crocodile lizards in South America can be said to be a mixture of giant lizards and crocodiles, both in appearance and habits. Adult lizards can grow to more than one meter, the size of giant lizards and cracked tongues, the scales of crocodiles and the water quality. They are diurnal semi-aquatic lizards, but they are also good at climbing trees. They usually like to bask in the sun on the branches near the water, and immediately escape into the water at the slightest sign of trouble. So the basic breeding environment is basically.

Most people know that crocodile lizards in South America feed on snails, but because most people have no experience, they don't know which kind of snails are suitable for breeding, and the origin information is only incomplete, so almost all owners raise them by raising giant lizards and feeding rats and frogs. Although it can be successfully raised, it is far from their actual needs.

In fact, crocodile lizards in South America feed entirely on snails of Ampullidae. This secret is almost unknown in the reptile market, and the webmaster came across it while looking for information about apple snails. These snails are huge and widely distributed in various water systems in South America. They mainly belong to four genera:

Asolene, Felipponea, Marisa and Pomacea, among which Pomacea is the most important food of South American crocodile lizard.

When it comes to snails, they are famous. Many years ago, Taiwan Province Province introduced a large number of snails from South America as edible snails by agricultural units, but abandoned them because of their bad taste. Now it has become the biggest scourge of aquatic plants in Taiwan Province Province, and its name is Pomacea canaliculata. There are many different body colors. At present, golden snails can still be often seen in the aquarium market. It's an amphibious doppelganger. After millions of years of evolution, the South American crocodile lizard has evolved powerful jaws and short flat teeth, which are the best tools for crushing snails and shellfish. Their teeth are not suitable for preying on other living foods. If South American alligator lizards are raised in Taiwan Province Province, the food sources are inexhaustible.

It is not difficult to distinguish between men and women. The male's face is deep and full of orange, while the female's face is light and narrow. At the same time, the male has two obvious splayed femoral holes between his legs, while the female does not. As for the feeding materials, we still don't know much about them, and we still have to rely on the owners to explore for themselves.

Scientific name Tribolonotus gracilis

New Guinea and its outlying islands.

Inhabit in humid forest areas

Body length 18-25cm.

The optimum temperature is 16-27 degrees Celsius.

Red-eyed crocodiles belong to small and medium-sized lizards, and there is a big orange rim around their eyes. From the front, it looks like two red eyes, which has the function of intimidating predators. Of course, this is also the origin of their names. There are eight kinds of crocodile lizard, and the red-eyed crocodile lizard is the best one. They generally live in mountain forests near mid-latitude streams in tropical rainforests. It is a carnivorous lizard, which feeds on insects and molluscs and likes to move in water.

It only takes a foot and a half to raise a pair of red-eyed crocodiles. It is best to arrange 1/3 water area and 2/3 land, and the substrate is sterile soil mixed with bark fragments, which can maintain high humidity. Too dry environment is easy to cause uneven peeling. Because they tend to walk at night, they don't need special lighting. In winter, it is best to install a heating pad in the corner of the crocodile to keep the proper temperature. Crocodiles have sharp claws and are good at climbing trees, so

The male lizard is slightly larger than the female lizard. The male has a row of tiny meat pads on the inside of the three toes of the hind foot, while the female does not. In addition, a man's navel will have an extra large square scale. Red-eyed crocodile lizard is docile by nature, but males will fight for females, so it is not suitable to keep two male lizards together, and it is best to keep them in pairs or in pairs. The spawning period is mostly in autumn, and the female lizard only lays one egg at a time. It can hatch in about 60 days. The incubation temperature should not exceed 29 degrees Celsius, and 27 degrees Celsius is the best. Temperature has nothing to do with sex. The third young lizard can reach the mature stage. As long as you pay attention to humidity, red-eyed crocodiles should live for at least ten years. They are lizards that are relatively easy to raise and reproduce.

Scientific name Jin Houyuan Long

Origin Australia and New Guinea

Habitat tropical rain forest area

Body length is 60-90cm.

The optimum temperature is 2 1-29 degrees Celsius.

The shape and color of the umbrella lizard are almost the same as the lizards in the minds of ordinary people. Few people know that the lizard is not only easy to raise, but also very docile and lively. It is one of the few lizards that are most suitable as pets. And the way they open their unique neck umbrella is even more fascinating. This medium and large lizard is distributed in Australia and New Guinea, and the individuals on the market are usually semi-wild individuals in Indonesia. It is better to buy young individuals when buying, which is easier to domesticate.

Umbrella lizards are gentle and rarely attack other lizards, but there will still be fights between the same species, so they are not suitable for mixed culture of individuals with large body differences. Their body colors range from brown to brown to gray or even black, and most of them have regional changes. Because the umbrella lizard belongs to the diurnal arboreal type, the height of the breeding box should be given priority. The floor can be made of tree dander and more dead branches can be put for climbing. UVB lamp and water basin are necessary equipment. Umbrella lizards eat a lot. Crickets, breadworms, cockroaches and even rats are all good food. Most individuals also eat vegetables, legumes, fish and shrimp, carnivorous lizard feed and other bait, so you can try more flavors. Umbrellas usually open their necks when they are threatened or frightened, so there are few opportunities to open them under normal circumstances. It should be noted that the tail of an umbrella lizard is twice as long as its body, so be careful not to be bitten off by its companion.

It is difficult to distinguish between males and females, especially in the larval stage. Adult males are much larger than females, and their head and neck umbrellas are also larger, and there will be protrusions under the cloaca, with bright body color and gentle personality. Lizards will breed in about a year, but it is safer to keep them for more than two years to avoid the female being stuck. In the process of reproduction, let them go through a period of low temperature drying. Can promote mating behavior. Mating is usually carried out on the ground, and pregnant females will dig holes in the ground to lay eggs, so the mound for laying eggs must be prepared in advance. The incubation temperature should be controlled at 27-29 degrees, not more than 30 degrees, otherwise the embryo may die. Under normal feeding conditions, the life span of lizards is fifteen years.

Scientific name Dryopteris coronatus

Mexico to northern Colombia

Habitat tropical rain forest area

Body length is 30-40cm.

The optimum temperature is 22-28 degrees Celsius.

The genus Dryopteris has three members: Dryopteris coronatus, Dryopteris henanensis and Dryopteris coronatus. Among them, C.cristatus, known as Fan Hai Lizard, is the most common in the pet market. Fan Hai lizard, green iguana, rhinoceros iguana and spiny-tailed iguana all belong to the family Iguanidae. Fiji iguanas belong to the same family. They not only have all the jaws and scales on their backs, but also the crown on their heads. It is like a sail, which can be extended and contracted at will. This is also a feature that other iguanas do not have. The tail is twice as long as the body length. Fan sea iguana is also a typical daytime arboreal lizard. They usually move on upright trunks or bushes.

The feeding method is similar to that of the double-crowned lizard, except that the Fanhai lizard does not need a lot of water. The food is mainly arthropods, insects, lizards, mice, earthworms and so on. And vitamins and calcium powder also need to be added. The drinking basin must be prepared, and it is best to spray water 2-3 times a day to maintain a high humidity.

The male and female are easy to distinguish, and the female head crown is small and the femoral hole is not obvious. The females lay 6- 10 eggs per nest, and they can hatch in about 60-75 days. However, the breeding of Fan Hai lizard is quite difficult, so the record of successful breeding is very rare, and there is still a lot of room for development.

China shilongzi

Native subspecies endemic to Taiwan Province Province

Habitat environment:/kloc-Mountain and grass below 0/000 meters.

Body length is 30-40cm.

The optimum temperature is 22-35 degrees Celsius.

There are more than ten species of skink in Taiwan Province Province, among which many species are prominent in body color. Skink is a common species in China, and it is also an endemic subspecies in Taiwan Province Province. There are also four subspecies distributed in Green Island, China and Southeast Asia. The number of ethnic groups is small, and they like to haunt the grass or bushes in lowland fields below 1000 meters, which is not easy for ordinary people to see. In winter, they have the habit of hibernating in the soil.

China skink is a Japanese terrestrial lizard, which generally feeds on small invertebrates and occasionally swallows the stems and leaves of plants. It is docile and timid, and has high adaptability to the artificial environment. It can be well raised in the environment of terrestrial lizards in ordinary tropical rain forests. For common crickets, breadworms are also very receptive to food. But the tail is as easy to cut yourself as Gong Wei, so you should avoid scratching the tail.

Male individuals have thick tail roots and large and dense erythema behind their ears. Females can lay 15-20 eggs per nest, which is considered as a relatively prolific lizard.

Scientific name feather lizard

Origin Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Costa Rica

Habitat tropical rain forest area

Body length is 70-90cm.

The optimum temperature is 24-35 degrees Celsius.

Double-crowned lizard is a standard reptile in tropical rain forest, which needs high temperature and high humidity. Because most of them live in trees by the river, the humidity of the environment is very high, which can reach 75- 100%. When raised in artificial environment, humidity control becomes the most important key. There are four subspecies of the double-crowned lizard * *, and the most common one is Basiliscus. Followed by striped double-crowned lizards, also known as Basiliscus vittatus and Basiliscus galeritus, and finally green double-crowned lizards. Strictly speaking, only the green double-crowned lizard's head crown is divided into two parts. It's a real double-crowned lizard, and the other three are all monolithic. You can distinguish each subspecies by the shape of the crown. Of course, the crown and fins on the back are only available to male individuals. The western double-crowned lizard is hard to see in the market because of its small number. The artificially propagated individuals are usually smaller than the wild individuals in head crown and fins, and their body color is slightly darker.

Although it is not difficult to raise double-crowned lizards as long as the conditions are suitable, they are easily frightened because of their timid nature.

The degree of interaction between owners is also relatively low, which is not suitable for people who like to keep pets. Double-crowned lizards like to live in trees on the river bank. When threatened, they can immediately jump into the water to escape. They run on the ground with their hind legs. Because of their light weight and strong hind legs, their hind feet are not only particularly large, but also the special scales on the soles of their feet can play the role of water skis, so that the double-crowned lizards can run a long distance on the water before sinking into the water to quickly escape from danger. Therefore,

The double-crowned lizard is also a typical daytime arboreal lizard. Its feeding trough is dominated by height, with branches and green potted plants. You can put a big basin at the bottom. The substrate can be sawdust or sterile soil, and UVB heating lamp is also necessary equipment. Because males have a strong sense of territory, it is impossible for a Tanqueray to have two males. It belongs to an insect-eating diet and can feed crickets, breadworms, mice, small fish and so on. In the wild, you can do both.

It is not difficult for adults to distinguish between men and women. Males are bigger, with crowns and dorsal fins, but they are more difficult to reproduce. The most important thing is the control of humidity, and others, such as sunshine time and temperature, should be properly coordinated. For example, the brown double-crowned lizard needs higher humidity. Keeping males and females apart for a period of time can increase the chances of successful mating. After successful mating, females will dig holes in the ground to lay eggs, and each nest can produce 60 eggs.

The incubation temperature should be kept at 28-29℃, and it can hatch in about 8- 10 weeks. The hatched larvae are best kept in the incubator until the oocysts are absorbed and then transferred to a separate feeding box. Young lizards 1 year and a half to 2 years can mature, but male lizards will fight in about 6 months, so it is best to keep them separately. Young lizards also have a unique trick to avoid enemies, that is, playing dead, which is rare among other lizards.

Pogona vitticeps

Origin: central to southeastern Australia.

Habitat semi-desert area or dry and sparse forest area

Body length is 40-60 cm.

The optimum temperature is 2 1-28 degrees Celsius.

Bristle lizard is a very popular pet lizard all over the world, and its popularity can be said to be equal to that of green iguana. The majestic momentum of adult lizards holding their heads high has really attracted many people's attention, and their size is much smaller than that of green iguanas, which is the main reason why they are more suitable for keeping at home. There are many subspecies of Setaria viridis. Due to different species, the body color changes slightly, and artificial cultivation, the body color of Setaria viridis is different.

I eat omnivorous food, but I prefer meat. Welcome all insects such as crickets, breadworms and ants, accounting for 70% of daily food. Of course, they also eat some vegetables, fruits and flowers, accounting for about 30%. The feeding amount for each time is based on the amount that can be eaten within 10- 15 minutes. Young lizards are fed 2-3 times a day, and adult lizards are fed about 2 times a week. But vegetables should be fed once a day. Spinning or fine sand mixed with sterile culture soil is the most suitable substrate, and bark or sawdust substrate should be avoided. Young lizards in the breeding space only need two feet of tanks, but a pair of adult lizards need four feet of tanks. Lionfish lizards are not good at drinking water from pots, so there is no need to put pots, but they need to spray water for them every two days. If fed well, lionfish lizards can live for more than ten years. Is similar.

Fighting between men, especially males, can be fierce sometimes, but generally it won't hurt people.

It is difficult to tell the difference between male and female at an early age. It can reach maturity in a year or so. Male lizards will turn black during the breeding season, but it is not absolute. Therefore, it is more accurate to distinguish between males and females by the difference of tails. The female lizard will dig a hole in the shelter of the ground to lay eggs, and can lay 10-25 eggs at a time. The incubation period is about 90 days. Because the maned lizard has special temperature control function, it can withstand higher or lower temperatures than other lizards, but the lighting equipment for heat preservation in winter is still indispensable. If you often play with the maned lion lizard, it will become a very docile and good pet scientific name Physignathus cocincinus.

China, Thailand, Viet Nam, etc.

Habitat riverside forest region

Body length is 60-90cm.

The optimum temperature is 24-3 1 celsius.

There are two kinds of hoses seen in reptile market: China hose P. cocincinus and Australian hose P. lesueurii. Although there are other 1-2 kinds of hoses, they have not appeared in the market. In terms of hoses, China hoses are more popular than Australian hoses, perhaps because of their pleasant colors. Basically, the distribution areas of the two kinds of hoses are different. China hoses are distributed in China and Indochina Peninsula, while Australian hoses are distributed in eastern Australia, so they are also called Oriental hoses. However, their habits and feeding habits are still very similar. The biggest difference is that the temperature range is very different. Australian hoses can withstand low temperatures below 0 degrees, but can't endure high temperatures above 28 degrees for a long time, and their personality is relatively stable. China hose is very sensitive to the low temperature below 20 degrees, but it has a good tolerance to high temperature and is timid. Therefore, for Taiwan Province Province, it is more appropriate to raise China hoses. Hoses in Australia are more likely to die from overheating and dehydration.

The feeding environment is mainly based on the principle of maintaining humidity and is arranged in the mode of tropical rain forest. The hoses are all diurnal semi-aquatic reptiles, and the substrate can be covered with sawdust mixed with sterile soil, and the humidity can be kept above 80%. Spray water more than twice a day to maintain high humidity, and UVB is also necessary. Of course, what is indispensable is a big basin. Hose likes to sit quietly in the water and soak in it. Hosea can be raised by multiple males as long as the feeding box is large enough. Insects are the main food. Crickets, breadworms and small fish are all good staple foods. Vegetables and fruits can also be fed. Adults can also feed suckling rats. Vitamins and calcium powder must be supplemented regularly.

It is not difficult for adults to distinguish between men and women. Male waterspouts have developed spines on their backs, which are much larger than females and have more obvious femoral holes. Male Australian waterspouts have bright orange to red on their chests, while China waterspouts have orange to yellow on their chests. Female markings are usually blurred. As long as the environment is suitable, it is not difficult for them to reproduce. But individuals at least two years old or over 60 cm are more suitable for breeding. Usually, hoses can lay eggs without low temperature, but if they are given a low temperature of 20-23 degrees for about two months and fed once a week, the sunshine time will drop below 10 hour. After two months, when the temperature returns to normal, the males will start courtship. About two months after mating, females will dig holes in the ground to lay eggs. Usually about 10 eggs are laid each time. Eggs can hatch in about 55-70 days in an incubator at 28-30 degrees. Larvae can be fed by ants, crickets and breadworms. As long as the environment is suitable, the hose can easily live for more than 65,438+00 years.

Scientific name monitor lizard

Origin: Komodo Island and its outlying islands in Indonesia.

Habitat: tropical rain forest area and dry grassland area

Body length is 200-300 cm.

The optimum temperature is 26-32 degrees Celsius.

The famous Komodo monitor lizard is believed to have been seen by everyone on the Discovery Channel. The largest lizard on the earth is a real monitor lizard, even the last dinosaur in the modern version. Its body length can reach three meters. There are only about 2,500-5,000 wild animals, of which only about 350 are females. Komodo dragon belongs to the first-class protection category of CITES. However, there are some imported lizards in Taiwan Province Province. Although the adult body color is unpretentious, the larvae are particularly gorgeous. Larvae usually inhabit trees until about one meter, and they will not return to the ground. This arboreal period is about one year. This is a natural instinct to avoid the attack of adult Komodo dragons.

Komodo dragon is a top predator and has no natural enemies in its native land, but it is still in danger of extinction because it is not easy to breed. They mainly hunt large mammals by ambush, such as goats, wild boar, deer and even buffalo. They usually eat corpses. Komodo dragons carry a lot of bacteria in their saliva. The bitten prey usually dies within two days due to inflammation of the wound. At this time, Komodo dragons with keen sense of smell can easily find prey to swallow. So avoid being bitten when raising, because the wound will be difficult to heal. They are also one of the few lizards with social habits. Their sense of smell mainly depends on forked tongues, not nostrils. Artificial farming mainly uses rats, chickens, ducks or meat. This monitor lizard is not suitable for keeping as a pet unless there is a wide outdoor breeding place.

Larvae can reproduce after five to seven years. May to July is the breeding season, and males will compete for females to mate with each other. July-September is the spawning period, and females will lay 15-30 soft-shell eggs, which can hatch after about 200-250 days. The incubation period is much longer than that of ordinary giant suction. Larvae mainly eat insects and keep the palace. Their life span is about 20-35 years.

. The scientific name is Teemo monitor lizard

Origin: Timor Island, Indonesia and surrounding islands.
