Where did the B29 bomber take off from Chengdu to bomb Japan?
At that time, American B-29 had four airports in Chengdu, Sichuan, namely Xinjin, Pengshan, Guanghan and Qionglai. Among them, Xinjin Airport, the largest, was the location of the American No.1 14 Air Force, No.58 Heavy Bomber Wing, No.20 Bombing Corps, No.40 Bombing Brigade and Chengdu Ground Corps in China. After 1949, it became a PLA military airport. Now it is the airport of Xinjin Branch of Civil Aviation Flight Academy of China, which is used to train civil aviation pilots. Guanghan Airport also belongs to Guanghan Branch of Civil Aviation Flight Academy of China. Pengshan Airport and Qionglai are still military.
