IATF 16949 was formulated by the International Automobile Industry Task Force (IATF) and supported by the Technical Committee on Quality Management and Quality Assurance of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC 176). Based on ISO900 1, this technical specification establishes the quality management system requirements for the design, development, production, installation and service of automobile related products.

IATF 16949 emphasizes continuous improvement, defect prevention, deviation reduction and waste reduction in the supply chain. On the basis of ISO900 1 6949, IATF1puts forward more detailed requirements for the automobile industry in terms of personnel capacity, awareness and training, design and development, production and service provision, control, measurement, analysis and improvement of monitoring and measuring devices, etc.
