At present, pharmaceutical English has gradually become an important part of the comprehensive skills of pharmaceutical students in medical colleges. Learning pharmaceutical English course is an important aspect for pharmaceutical students to improve their English level and professional skills, and it is also one of the important aspects for colleges and universities to cultivate compound talents. Due to various factors, the teaching level of pharmaceutical English in medical colleges and universities in China needs to be strengthened urgently. Based on the present situation of pharmaceutical English teaching, this paper discusses the problems encountered in pharmaceutical English teaching and puts forward corresponding countermeasures to improve the teaching quality of pharmaceutical English.
Pharmaceutical English; Teaching; Higher vocational education of pharmacy
In recent years, China's pharmaceutical industry has made remarkable achievements, and the import and export trade has flourished, which is both a rare opportunity and a huge challenge for pharmaceutical students. In order to adapt to the rapid development of modern society, the study of pharmaceutical English is becoming more and more important. In today's society, economic development and social interaction require college graduates to master the listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities of pharmaceutical English to a certain extent. On the basis of professional basic courses and English learning, college students have acquired a systematic knowledge structure. On this basis, the learning of pharmaceutical English has a good foundation. However, due to the influence of many factors, there are still some problems in the teaching and learning of pharmaceutical English in higher vocational colleges. The author expounds this through his own teaching experience and puts forward some corresponding solutions.
1, Deficiencies in Pharmaceutical English Teaching in Pharmaceutical Vocational Colleges
1. 1 Students' basic English level is low and uneven. At present, China's colleges and universities generally have low requirements for the English level of higher vocational students, which leads to the low English level of higher vocational students. Pharmaceutical English is more difficult than college English. Teachers should not only explain professional vocabulary in class, but also help students review basic English vocabulary and sentence patterns. Students often feel at a loss in the process of learning, which leads to weariness of learning and affects the enthusiasm of teachers.
1.2 The textbooks are single, and there is a lack of textbooks suitable for junior college level. At present, higher vocational colleges in medical colleges lack targeted teaching materials, which are often replaced by undergraduate pharmaceutical English teaching materials. Because the articles used in undergraduate textbooks are too professional and difficult, it is difficult for higher vocational students to learn and master. Individual colleges and universities use self-made textbooks, but the difficulty of the content often can't completely match the students' actual English level, and at the same time, it is not practical because it can't supplement the frontier knowledge in the field of pharmacy in time.
The teaching mode of 1.3 is single and outdated, and the teaching of pharmaceutical English is generally boring, ignoring the differences of different majors. In practical teaching, the emphasis of different majors such as analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, pharmacy, medicinal chemistry and pharmacognosy is not taken into account. Teaching methods are usually single text translation and explanation of key and difficult words, while ignoring the communication ability of oral and listening. Lack of interaction between teachers and students.
1.4 teachers are weak. At present, most pharmaceutical English teachers in colleges and universities have English professional background, lack of pharmaceutical-related knowledge, and there will be some deviations in their understanding of pharmaceutical English professional content. Or a teacher who graduated from pharmacy, it is difficult to be competent for English teaching. At the same time, many colleges and universities do not attach importance to the training of full-time pharmaceutical English teachers, which leads to poor teaching effect and low teaching quality.
1.5 Schools and students do not pay enough attention to the education and teaching of professional English. Many colleges and universities regard the passing rate of CET-4 and CET-6 as a content of teaching quality evaluation, and students also regard whether they pass CET-4 and CET-6 as their learning goal. Some students relax their English learning after passing the grade, and lack interest and motivation in professional English learning. Many students don't realize the importance of pharmaceutical English in their future work, so they study pharmaceutical English with the mentality of coping with exams and getting credits. The teaching management departments of some colleges and universities do not pay enough attention to pharmaceutical English, which leads to less pharmaceutical English class hours and can not meet the needs of teaching tasks.
Step 2: Countermeasures
2. 1 Rich teaching methods and colorful teaching methods can improve students' interest, thus improving the efficiency and quality of learning. You can consult some professional articles and research summaries to enrich English learning content. Adopt multimedia teaching method, because this method can add images, sounds, animations and other information to classroom teaching, and improve students' interest. Strengthen students' participation in classroom teaching through discussion, question and answer, and improve students' initiative.
2.2 Cultivate students' interest in learning pharmaceutical English, invite famous scholars at home and abroad to hold English lectures, and cultivate students' ability to read pharmaceutical English literature with the help of dictionaries, so as to lay a foundation for students' practical application after graduation. Playing videos related to pharmacy in Europe and America not only broadens students' horizons, but also gives them the most authentic and direct feelings and improves their interest in learning. By introducing the frontier and development of this major, students can understand the prospect and employment information in this field, and at the same time, students can understand the significance of pharmaceutical English for their own competition and competition in this field.
2.3 Strengthening the construction of professional teachers Pharmaceutical English is different from both professional courses and basic English courses. The teaching staff is uneven, so it is difficult for teachers to have both pharmaceutical background and English professional background. Therefore, the teaching management department should attach importance to the cultivation of English teachers for pharmaceutical majors. Organize regular counseling for senior teachers of English and pharmacy, and arrange for young and middle-aged teachers to study and exchange in relevant colleges and universities.
2.4 Strengthening the selection of teaching materials The preparation of teaching materials should conform to students' actual English level and professional characteristics, and be interesting, informative and practical, including vocabulary and special expressions of pharmaceutical majors, and introduce the basic and professional knowledge of pharmacy in detail. In order to improve students' ability to solve practical problems, drug instructions, device instructions and English abstracts of scientific papers should be added in classroom teaching.
2.5 Reasonable arrangement of teaching time The starting time of pharmaceutical English should be arranged as far as possible after the end of pharmaceutical courses. In this way, students have a good grasp of professional knowledge before learning pharmaceutical English, and they can have a deeper understanding of what they are exposed to during the learning process. At the same time, the content of pharmaceutical English can promote students' review of pharmaceutical professional knowledge and strengthen their further understanding and mastery of pharmaceutical professional knowledge learned in the early stage.
In a word, pharmaceutical English in higher vocational colleges is an indispensable part of professional content, and its teaching has its own characteristics. Its various reforms should be based on cultivating compound talents in the new period, applying what they have learned and combining the reality of each school. Pharmaceutical educators should also constantly enrich themselves for this teaching goal and purpose, improve the theoretical teaching level, and look at the current situation of medical frontiers.
