From three minutes of heat to youth with a knife
I used to be a passionate person for three minutes. From college to the previous ten years, I learned French and Spanish, went to New Oriental, took an examination of English interpretation, and, oh, I also learned piano, guitar and sketch. How can I put it? Every time I have an idea, I act passionately and study tirelessly, but I just can't last long. I used to wonder, am I just a restless person who is afraid of difficulties, can't persist and will eventually accomplish nothing? No, I really don't want to admit it.

I continue to study, try and adjust. Finally, after studying career planning for several years and getting to know more people and people, I began to understand my own characteristics and values, and gradually established and practiced my own interest focus, thus successfully becoming a freelancer with a variety of occupations. When I saw that the word "slash youth" was mentioned and recognized by more and more people, I really wanted to say to my friends with "three-minute fever syndrome": Dear, are you still blaming yourself? Come on! Our spring has really come!

At the beginning of this year, an article that "multiple occupations" became a new global trend exploded in the circle of friends. The reference to "slash" was translated from English "slash" and was put forward by a columnist in The New York Times in 2007. She said that many young people are no longer satisfied with a single career, but choose multiple careers and multiple identities. Do these people use diagonal lines to distinguish their different occupations? Like David? Li, university lecturer/photographer/food writer. In fact, after a little observation, we will find that there are a large number of diversified professionals around us, especially in Beishangguang and office white-collar workers. They may be personal yoga instructors, sponsors of non-profit organizations, or Airbnb homeowners and experts. In short, as long as you have certain skills, you can find customers and exchange income on the corresponding platform. "Slash youth" is synonymous with such a group of people.

However, think again, have there really been "slash youths" in these years? Not at all. Just name a few people, such as Leonardo da Vinci, who is not only a great painter, but also an astronomer, inventor, architectural engineer and anatomist. Another example is Benjamin? Franklin, a famous politician, was also a physicist, publisher and writer, who invented lightning rod and bifocal glasses. Maybe you will say that these people are geniuses, and we ordinary people can't do it at all, but geniuses are also human beings. They can do so many things in a short life, which shows that human potential is huge. Their experience tells us what it is like for a slash youth to achieve the ultimate (there are many famous figures such as slash, Jefferson, Churchill and Nightingale).

Whether these famous diagonal lines or ordinary diagonal lines, I think they can all be classified as a kind of "diversified developmental people" (Margaret? Robinson explained in her book From Three Minutes to 10,000 Hours that such people have some common characteristics: First, they like a variety of things and are unwilling to pursue only one thing. Second, they pay more attention to possibility and creativity and don't like to do things step by step. Thirdly, for them, success means more experiences and challenges than power and money. In other words, they are often energetic and curious, and do whatever they like, regardless of the constraints of reality or the opinions of others; They don't like being arranged and labeled, but want to stay alive to realize or create more possibilities; It is difficult for them to do one thing for a long time, because experience and conquest are the greatest pleasure and satisfaction. They are likely to be called idealists because they often give up more promising positions or opportunities to make money and turn to new directions.

If you are not only a person who is passionate for three minutes, but also feel that these characteristics are lying down, then you are likely to be a "multi-developmental person" (of course, you may also be incompetent, inattentive or habitually evasive, and this article will not discuss it for the time being). However, the question is, why are we similar in personality characteristics and values? Some people have developed into slash youth with wonderful life and considerable income, while others are still stuck in three minutes of enthusiasm and self-esteem. There are many articles trying to give methods, such as how to manage time, how to improve concentration and self-control. But everything starts with cognition and belief. If you want to fundamentally change the three-minute fever, I think you can test whether there are these two ideas first:

First, I can't do many things at the same time. I must determine the direction of my life. According to past social experience, people generally think that doing one thing well all one's life is the best survival strategy, but for a person with a wide range of interests, it is a painful thing to choose a favorite option and take it as the lifelong direction. They are afraid of making the wrong choice and missing their talents and a better life, so they always want to try more, but they are afraid of trying too much and falling behind others, so it seems so. However, the times have changed, the social division of labor has been further refined, and the development of the Internet has made it possible for us to have a variety of occupations, so that we no longer have to worry about which occupation to choose. The existence of slash youth also proves that we can do many things at the same time and do them well.

Second, it takes 10000 hours to become a top player. Is it too late for me to start now? People who pay more attention to development generally do not lack the courage to act, and like many people, they are eager to become top experts in a certain field. When they hear that it may take 65,438+/kloc-0,000 hours to become such a person, and compared with professionals, they have no foundation and start too late, so they are easy to retreat and give up (but they are impatient to try the next thing they are interested in). In fact, even if the theory of 1000 hour is correct, even if you have zero basis, it is only three hours a day, only ten years. Ten years is nothing for the next few decades of life (think about how much time we wasted). If you can adopt scientific and effective methods, you may become an expert in an industry in 1000 hours and bring changes to your life.

Therefore, if we can get rid of the above two restrictive ideas, we may not only be able to do several interesting things at the same time, but also start meaningful and sustained actions without scaring ourselves because of 10000 hours. Then, if you really want to bid farewell to the three-minute fever and become a slash youth, I still have some immature suggestions here. Please listen to them.

The first step is to distinguish between true interest and false interest.

People who are hot for three minutes seem to have a wide range of interests and will get everything done in one stroke, but are these interests really your interests? Are there some just because they are handsome, such as guitars? Are there some just because others are learning, such as English? When you ask yourself, "Do I really like this thing itself?" "What does it mean to me to learn this?" "What can I change?" You will have a clearer answer. I remember myself. When I go to learn various languages, do I really like the language itself? No, I'm not very interested in words, pronunciation and grammar. I just have an illusion that if I learn a foreign language well, I may go abroad, join a foreign company and do simultaneous interpretation, which means I can broaden my horizons, be more free and have more life experiences. On the other hand, if I pursue these values, must I learn a language? Is there any other method that I am interested in and good at? Ask yourself several times in this way, and you can basically tell whether you are really interested or not.

Step 2, confirm your focus combination, no more than 5.

If you screen out some real interests after the first step, such as writing, speaking, painting, ukulele, gardening, Latin dance and so on (well, it's me again), then you need to focus on the following. Focus is not to let you completely give up some interests, but to do something well in the next three years, and then do something else when these things are satisfactory. You can choose 3-4 items as the first combination of interests, which can not only meet the diversity, but also give consideration to time and energy. It is best not to exceed 5 items in scientific argumentation. If you find it difficult, imagine this scene may help you: three years later (no matter how far it is to us), what qualities or achievements will your four closest people describe at your birthday celebration? In their eyes, what kind of person you have become ... what kind of person you want to be determines your focus in the next few years. After determining the focus of interest, you can set goals, plans and small tasks every day around this focus. If you feel that it is not appropriate to implement it for a period of time, just make adjustments in time.

The third step is to choose a job, sideline or community close to the focus of interest.

Some people can't stick to their interests because they are too far away from their real jobs and can't see their progress and value. As far as I know, many people want to develop their interests into careers, even careers, so why don't we choose a job, sideline or club closer to our interests? For example, I like writing and speaking. I hope more people can live a better life through career planning, so I choose to do vocational training. In order to do a good job, I need to practice writing and speaking constantly. You see, this is a good job for me. If you can't become a trainer immediately, you can take part in relevant community activities, such as Touma, Orange College and Action School. In the community, you can not only meet people with similar interests, but also have many opportunities to exercise and get feedback. After you have a certain foundation, you can invest in some professional training and try to start a sideline business first (there are opportunities everywhere on the Internet, and you can create your own opportunities without them). In short, you can stay in the interest range.

The fourth step is to set interesting and changeable short-term goals.

Sometimes, even if we are well aware of our values, interests, goals and action plans, we will still be lazy, procrastinate and feel tired, which will happen to everyone, because people are naturally attracted to new and interesting things, not to mention multi-directional people. In order to maintain enthusiasm and vitality, we can make full use of this nature to set short-term goals. For example, if I am interested in fitness, then I can take a yoga class this month. Next month, I will go hiking and run a marathon with my friends, and then make an appointment with my best friend to take a group of sports photos. In short, how to be interesting, how to use events and situations to stimulate my motivation, rather than a fixed punch plan and to-do list. In the short term, you are still playing, but in the long term, you have been quietly accumulating and changing.

Well, if, like me, you always feel that there is a force in your heart that is ready to move, then we should really feel happy, because as long as you agree with your own characteristics, focus on a few interests and exercise solid skills, you can have multiple occupations and identities in this era, become a happy and full slash youth and create a more natural, independent, diverse and meaningful life.
