How poor was it then? Eating meat is a luxury. There is no TV at home, and my mother borrows it from east to west every year. Everyone has new clothes to wear during the Spring Festival, but I don't. One year, I was reluctant to let my mother buy me new clothes, and my mother beat me up.
When I was in grade one, I went to school near my home. At that time, a girl in our class had a good relationship with me. There was a power outage at school and it snowed heavily. I was afraid that she would be scared at school, so I let her live in my house. Knowing that my classmates were coming that day, my mother specially changed a new quilt, went to the village head to buy some pork, and cooked pork and stewed vermicelli at night.
The next day, the female classmate went back to school. Instead of thanking me, she told the whole class about my family, saying that my family is as shabby and dirty as the garbage station that collects waste products. Although people don't like me because of my popularity, they don't like that female classmate, but this incident left a great shadow on me. Since then, I have never invited my classmates to my home.
Later, because I was old, I knew that wearing other people's old clothes could no longer satisfy me, so I thought of a way. Every weekend, I will go to the road to pick up the screws, scrap iron and discarded bottles that fell from the car and go home to save them and sell them. Picking flowers and bones in the garden during the summer vacation can earn more than three yuan a day.
When I go to school, I usually buy a steamed bread and drink boiled water with pickles. This gradually saves a lot of money.
However, although I was poor at that time and there was no TV at home, fortunately my father sold second-hand books, so I read a lot of books when I was free, which was the greatest blessing in my poor life!
