The "National Oral English Contest for Teenagers" is an off-campus interest activity organized by Chinese Academy of Juvenile Sciences and China Youth Development Service Center nationwide, aiming at improving teenagers' interest in learning English and improving their oral English expression ability. It has been held for five consecutive years, attracting millions of young oral English lovers all over the country and becoming an influential English-featured activity and competition in China.
In 2006 and 2007, the 4th and 5th National Oral English Contest for Teenagers held in Guangzhou attracted tens of thousands of excellent English lovers from Guangzhou, Foshan, Dongguan, Jiangmen and Huizhou. The selected representatives of Guangzhou Division made brilliant achievements in the final of the National Youth Oral English Competition held in Beijing, especially in the fifth national finals in 2007, Guangzhou team stood out from more than 70 teams and achieved the impressive results of ranking first in the number of medals and second in the number of gold medals in the country.
With the approach of the Olympic Games and the World Expo, English, as a common language of international communication, is particularly important for the teenagers in the host country to master and use this communication tool skillfully. The Guangzhou Division of the National Youth Oral English Competition will fully display students' excellent talents and elegant demeanor in language learning and development, and fully feel the process of the activity and the results of the competition through written tests in listening, reading and picture composition in the preliminary contest, preparatory speeches in the final, picture or animation description or dialogue, letter composition, reading retelling, scene setting and on-site answering.
There are oral English performance awards (first prize, second prize, third prize and excellent award), English talent performance awards (first prize, second prize, third prize and excellent award) and personal English content awards.
