The Department of Agricultural Mechanization was established in 1952, which was formed by the merger of the former Central University and the Agricultural Engineering Department of Jinling University. It is one of the earliest teaching and scientific research bases of agricultural mechanization in China, and has formed a team of professionals with certain influence in agricultural machinery industry in China, headed by the older generation of scientific and technological workers such as Wu Xianggan and Pan, supplemented by the younger generation such as Ji. More than 3,000 technical talents have been trained for the country, and many of them have become academicians, famous experts, main leaders and technical backbones of various enterprises, institutions and government departments.

"Agricultural Machinery and Facilities" was rated as a national excellent course, agricultural mechanization and automation specialty was identified as a provincial-level characteristic construction point, agricultural machinery course was rated as a second-class excellent course in colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province, "Agricultural Machinery Course Construction and Teaching Comprehensive Reform" won the second prize of higher education teaching achievement in Jiangsu Province, agricultural machinery CAI courseware won the third prize in Jiangsu Province, and six teaching reform projects were under study, which undertook the main teaching tasks of agricultural machinery industry training in Jiangsu Province.
