Introduction:
Yaoshan is located in the eastern suburb of Guilin, 8 kilometers away from the city center, with the main peak at an altitude of 909.3 meters. It is the highest mountain in Guilin, named after the Yao Di Temple built on it during the Zhou and Tang Dynasties.
Yaoshan is famous for its unpredictable and colorful scenery of the four seasons. You can take the sightseeing cableway to the top of Yaoshan Mountain. Looking southeast from the top of the mountain, you can see a huge natural reclining Buddha, just like Sakyamuni sleeping on a lotus flower. This is the largest natural reclining Buddha ever discovered. According to legend, as long as you climb Yaoshan, the emperor will witness it. The protection of the reclining Buddha will definitely make your life safe and auspicious.
The mountain roughly extends from north to south. It is tall and vigorous, like an ox, and its common name is Niu Shan. Yuanyun160 ~ 800 million years ago, Yaoshan was originally the seabed, which was lifted to land by Guangxi movement about 400 million years ago and then became a shallow sea. It was composed of sandstone and shale 360 million years ago. Hundreds of millions of years later, the rock mass was slowly destroyed by physical weathering, forming a gentle "earth mountain", and the debris deposits on the surface still remained on the slopes and foothills. According to the investigation, the Yaoshan fault has been pushing Yaoshan to a high place since the Indosinian movement 200 million years ago, the Yanshan movement 70 million years ago and the Himalayan movement 2 million years ago, and it has become the highest peak of Guilin Mountain range.
