Wooden drum, also known as drum fast book, has a strong local color and is the most popular form of drum book in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province. Cangzhou wooden drum is a unique art form in China. Because the folk artists who sang it are old and have no successors, this art form is on the verge of extinction. According to the investigation of relevant departments, there are only 10 old wooden drum artists who can still perform at present, ranging in age from nearly 70 to 56. Although the local cultural department has held several training courses to inherit this art, it has had little effect. On May 20th, 2006, Quyi was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
