JHH is one of the largest centers for diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic tumors in the United States, and more than 200 pancreaticoduodenectomy cases are completed every year. John L. Cameron, MD, former surgical director of JHH, was the first surgeon in the world to complete 1000 pancreaticoduodenectomy. The director of gastroenterology, pancreas and liver (biliary service) is Charles J. Yeo M.D (who has been transferred to be the chief professor of surgery at Kimmel Cancer Center of Thomas Jefferson University), and other well-known experts include Dana Anderson, Frederic E. Eckhauser, Martin Makary, etc.
JHH is also the birthplace of global neurosurgery. There are many treatment centers in neurosurgery, which can treat diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), aneurysms, brain tumors, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, multiple neurofibromas, neuroimmune diseases and so on. There is an independent treatment center for each disease. Every year, a large number of new clinical drugs are first provided to patients in well-known hospitals such as Johns Hopkins Hospital after being approved by FDA. At the same time, there is the largest neurosurgery research base in the United States, and a large number of clinical trials of multinational pharmaceutical companies are conducted in Johns Hopkins Hospital. Every year, a large number of new neurosurgical drugs pass the third phase of clinical trials and submit marketing applications to FDA.
