Assistant notary refers to a full-time professional assistant who meets the employment conditions and is employed by a notary office to assist notaries in handling notarization affairs. Being an assistant notary should be an internship in an accredited notary office.

Chapter III Examination and Employment Procedures
Article 8 The judicial administrative organs of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government shall determine the number of notaries to be appointed according to the deployment and requirements of the Ministry of Justice and the actual needs of the development of notaries in the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government, and according to the assessment and appointment procedures and distribution plan before the annual assessment and appointment work begins.
The annual assessment plan for notaries formulated by the judicial administrative organs of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government shall be reported to the Ministry of Justice for the record.
Article 9 The judicial administrative organs of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government shall notify the local judicial administrative organs and notary offices of the job evaluation work plan three months before accepting the job evaluation application centrally, and announce relevant information to the society when necessary.
Tenth persons who intend to apply for post evaluation shall apply to the notary office that needs to select notaries. After examination, the notary office shall submit a letter of recommendation to the local judicial administrative organ for the candidates who meet the prescribed conditions and the needs of this organ.
Article 11 The personnel recommended by notaries to participate in the examination and appointment shall be arranged by the judicial administrative organs of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government in a unified way and attend the appointment training organized by China Notary Association at the specified time.
Article 12 After passing the on-the-job training, the applicants for the on-the-job examination shall submit the following application materials to the local judicial administrative organ through the notary office that needs to appoint notaries:
(a) application for examination;
(2) Letter of recommendation from the notary office;
(3) A copy of the applicant's resident identity card and his/her resume;
(four) proof of compliance with the conditions stipulated in Article 5 of these Measures;
(five) the applicant's good conduct appraisal materials issued by the applicant's original unit;
(6) Proof that the applicant has left the original post;
(seven) the certificate issued by the China Notary Association that the job training is qualified;
(eight) other materials that need to be submitted.
Article 13 After receiving the application materials, the judicial administrative organ where the notary office is located shall examine the applicant and the materials submitted in accordance with the regulations, issue preliminary examination opinions, and submit the application materials and examination opinions to the judicial administrative organs of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government for examination and approval step by step according to the time specified in the work plan for evaluating and appointing posts in the current year.
