International schools are divided into three categories: foreign children's schools, private international schools and international departments of public schools. We take these three types of international schools as examples to analyze the entrance threshold of international schools for you, which is mainly reflected in three aspects:
First, the threshold of identity: nationality requirements.
Foreign children's school
Such schools have strict requirements on nationality. Generally, children must have a foreign passport or one of their parents is a foreigner.
Private international school
Not limited to household registration, Beijing-based, non-Beijing-based and foreign students can apply.
International department of public schools
For families with local hukou, some international departments also recruit non-Beijing students with very good grades.
Second, the threshold of documents: document requirements
Foreign children's school
At least one parent of the student holds a valid foreign passport and a work-related residence permit issued by the Beijing Exit-Entry Administration Corps;
At least one student's parents and students hold a valid diplomatic passport and diplomatic residence permit issued by the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
At least one parent and student holds a valid foreign passport and a permanent residence permit or reunion residence permit for foreigners issued by the Beijing Exit-Entry Administration Corps.
Private international school
Non-Beijing families attending primary schools and junior high schools in private international schools in Beijing need to prepare four certificates, namely, the actual residence certificate in Beijing, the employment certificate in Beijing, the household registration book, the Beijing residence permit or the residence registration card. If the four certificates fail to pass the examination, students will not be admitted to the school, and most international schools will not admit them.
Note: High schools applying for private international schools can directly apply for the entrance examination without any document requirements.
International department of public schools
Take Beijing as an example. If you want to study in the international department of public schools, you must be a family with a Beijing hukou or a non-Beijing family that meets nine categories of people in Beijing (equivalent to a Beijing hukou). For this kind of schools, the number of schools that non-Beijing families can choose is relatively limited, so it is recommended to give priority to private international schools.
Third, the entrance threshold: entrance examination requirements
Foreign children's school
Applicants need to pass the written test+interview test of the school's independent proposition, and choose the best.
Private international school
Applicants need to pass the written test+interview test of the school's independent proposition, and choose the best.
For the lower grades, international schools will use classroom observation+interview to investigate the applicant's family, while for the upper grades, they need to take entrance exams, including mathematics, English and other subjects. Some schools require standardized test transcripts (IELTS, TOEFL, SSAT, etc. ) Not only students but also parents have to take the exam.

International department of public schools

Take private international schools as an example. If parents want their children to attend a high-quality private school, they should make the following preparations, which will be beneficial to their children's enrollment and early adaptation to the environment of international schools.
1. Pay close attention to the latest enrollment trends of major international schools and whether there are enough degrees;
2. Improve children's learning ability, and if necessary, go to institutions for school preparation training;
3. Understand the basic information of Beijing International School, such as school philosophy, school history, curriculum, etc.
42. Understand the frequently asked questions when interviewing parents in some popular international schools, so as to prepare for the interview.
Conclusion: There is a threshold for attending an international school, but parents need not worry too much. Consult a professional in advance, and be prepared according to the family and children's own situation (learning level and psychological level). I believe they will be admitted to a high-quality international school!
