The development of nursing in Union Medical College Hospital originated from 1928. There were only 9 nursing staff at first, and there were 1 supervisors (directors) in the nursing department, who were British Ms. G Stephenson. During the period from 1922 to 1925, Ms. Stephenson was the president of China Nursing Association. Before liberation, the post of director of nursing department was held by five foreigners. After liberation, 1950 formally established the nursing department in Union Medical College Hospital. For the first time, the director of nursing department was Guan Baozhen, a domestic nursing expert, and the number of nursing staff in the hospital gradually increased from 9 in the early days to 72. By the end of 20 15, the total number of nursing staff in the hospital has reached 3 155, forming a multi-level personnel structure such as specialist, undergraduate, master and doctor. At present, 99% have college education or above, and more than 1% have master's degrees. The nursing department always adheres to the three-level quality control system and pays attention to the continuous improvement of nursing quality. The evaluation standards of nursing quality such as general wards, special wards, nursing human resource management, nursing teaching and training, and nursing humanistic care have been established, and the nursing quality has been steadily improved. At present, Union Medical College Hospital has set up characteristic nursing groups such as intravenous therapy group, wound stoma nursing group, health education group, fall prevention and safety group, indwelling pipeline management group, diabetes nursing group, psychological nursing group, caring nurse group and critical illness specialist nursing group. There are 55 specialized nurses in our hospital, which give full play to the role of specialized nurses in clinical nursing.
