The large-scale landing of "sex therapists" in Taiwan Province Province once attracted a heated discussion. Netizen commented, "Show a morbid husband and wife life? Is this too avant-garde and bold? " "Who will invite people to' observe' their sexual behavior?" .
"Sex therapist" is still a strange term for most people in China. The disharmony of sexual life, in the eyes of reserved China people, is a shame that is difficult to tell outsiders. The life of husband and wife is not ideal. At most, husband and wife go to andrology and gynecology clinics respectively. Pei Xinyu, an associate professor of sociology at Sun Yat-sen University, said that in foreign countries, sex therapists have become an ordinary profession like psychological counselors, but in China, they have not been officially recognized, so it is difficult to have clear standards on treatment methods and boundaries.
In 2007, the "First Training Course for Sex Therapists in China" sponsored by china sexology association, peking university health science center and the School of Clinical Medicine of Mamori University was held in Shenzhen. At that time, it was said that this training course would produce the first batch of "sex therapists" in China. Since then, no similar training courses have been held. China sexology association has been trying to push "sex therapists" into the formal career sequence, but this "regularization" work needs the approval of the labor department and the health department, and has not been completed so far. In Hongkong, China, sex therapists are also a new profession, but there are specialized institutions responsible for training and certification.
Mr. Gu, who has worked as a sex therapist for many years, said that generally speaking, only European and American countries have a relatively complete registration system for sex therapists, and there is no registration and supervision system for sex therapists in the three places across the Taiwan Strait, which is a mixed bag.
Gu completed the professional training of sex therapists in Florida in 2005, and the courses he received were recognized by the authoritative professional organization, Association of Sexual Educators Consultants &: Therapists.
A few years ago, Gu and several other trained sex therapists established the Hong Kong Professional Association of Sex Education, Research and Treatment in Hong Kong, hoping to raise public awareness of sex therapy and improve the quality of sex therapy services in Hong Kong. The association has started training sex therapists in Hong Kong. They require that students in the professional courses of learning therapists must have a master's degree and other professional experience. Gu said that sex therapy focuses on some problems and troubles caused by sexual psychology, physiology, sexual behavior and sexual relationship, helping the parties out of the problems and troubles. Unless the therapist is qualified to practice medicine, he can't prescribe any medicine to the client. If the sex therapist thinks that the client's problem is related to physiology, he will advise the client to see a doctor.
Gu said that he will also teach caressing skills, posture coordination and other skills according to the needs and conditions of the parties to improve the quality of sexual life, but all skills are limited to the parties' attempts and exercises at home and will not be demonstrated on the spot. The therapist will not have any physical contact with the client to ensure the safety of the client. There is a clear boundary in the whole treatment process, which is the professional ethics that therapists must follow.
