Sun Chang Wuji's Original _ Translation and Appreciation
Wuji (594-659), a native of Luoyang, Henan Province, was a prime minister and consort in the early Tang Dynasty, and was born in son of the general in the Sui Dynasty. His mother was Han, and he was the same mother and brother as Empress Wende. During the Zhenguan period, mowgli successively served as general Zuo Wuhou, official minister, official right assistant minister, Sikong, Situ, Shi Zhong and Zhong Shuling, and named Zhao Guogong, ranking first among the heroes of Lingyange. In the dispute over the establishment of protected areas, he supported Gao Zong, who was later appointed as the minister, and awarded Qiu and Tong Zhongshu three titles. During the Yonghui period, Wuji presided over the revision of the Tang law based on the law of Zhenguan, and later opposed the high Wu Zetian. In 659, in the fourth year of emperor xianqing, mowgli was framed by xu, exiled to ganzhou, and finally hanged himself. The first year of last year was rehabilitated. Sun Chang Wuji's Early Life Experience.

Sun Chang Wuji lost his father, and his mother and sister were driven out of the house by his half-brother Sun Anye and raised by his uncle Gao Shilian. He is intelligent, studious, knowledgeable in literature and history and resourceful, and has a good relationship with Li Shimin, the second son of Tang Guogong Li Yuan. Gao Shilian saw that Li Shimin was very talented and married his niece. Sun Chang Wuji and Li Shimin became Langjiu.

At the end of Sui Dynasty, Li Yuan fought against Sui Dynasty in Taiyuan, invaded Guanzhong and established the Tang Dynasty for Tang Gaozu. When Sun Chang Wuji crossed the river in Gaozu, he went to Changchun Palace for an audience and was appointed as the marching order of Weibei Road to assist Li Shimin, the king of Qin. Since then, Sun Chang Wuji has followed Li Shimin's expedition to the east and the west, moved to Bibi as a doctor, and became an important member of the Ce Tian family in Li Shimin.

Participate in the mutiny

In the process of unifying the Tang dynasty, he made outstanding contributions, which threatened the status of the prince and made him feel uneasy. Li colluded with Li Yuanji, king of Qi, and did harm many times. Li Shimin's assistant was very worried. Fang said to Mowgli, "Now that the two sides have made an enemy, once the disaster is exposed, it will be difficult for Qin Gong to clean up and the country to survive. It's better to persuade the king of Qin to do the duke of Zhou's move and secure the country. " Sun Chang Wuji said: "I have had this idea for a long time, but I have been afraid to say it. Your words are just what I want. " So, Wuji, together with Fang and Du Ruhui, persuaded the preemptive strike and killed Li and Li Yuanji.

In the ninth year of Wude (626), Li visited Li Yuan and expelled Fang and Du Ruhui from Qin Gong, leaving only Mowgli as his confidant staff. Wuji firmly supported Fang's motion of coup, and persuaded his uncle Gao Shilian and the marquis of Qin Dynasty to let him kill the Prince and the King of Qi day and night. Li Shimin is still hesitating. At this time, in the name of fighting back against the Turkish invasion, Li recommended Li Yuanji to supervise the northern exploration, and transferred the elite soldiers of Qin, planning to ambush and kill them in the farewell ceremony. After learning that he decided to launch a mutiny, Li Shimin ordered Sun Chang Wuji to secretly recall and plan with Du Ruhui.

In June of the same year, he led Wuji, Hou, Zhang, Liu Shili, Gong Sunwuda, Dugu, Joe Doo Chuo, Zheng Rentai, Li Mengchang and others to ambush in Xuanwu Gate and successfully killed Li and Li Yuanji. Soon, Tang Gaozu canonized Li Shimin as the Crown Prince and appointed Sun Chang Wuji as the left illegitimate child of the Prince. In August, he succeeded to the throne as Emperor Taizong, and his wife was the queen. Sun Chang appointed Wuji as Zuo Wuhou. Later, Se fought against the Tang Dynasty in Youzhou, and Sun Chang Wuji served as the marching manager to conquer Se.

assume office as premier

In the first year of Zhenguan (627), Sun Chang Wuji was appointed as the official minister, the first hero, and was named Qi Huangong, with 1,300 households. He is not only a respected minister, but also a national stakeholder. He is deeply favored by Emperor Taizong and has access to his bedroom. In July of the same year, Emperor Taizong worshipped Sun Chang Wuji as the right servant of Shangshu. At that time, some people protested on the secret table that Sun Chang Wuji had too much power to spoil. Emperor Taizong showed Sun Chang Mowgli the secret table to show that the monarch and his subjects had no guess, and called his ministers together to show his trust in Mowgli. However, Sun Chang Wuji, worried that wealth would bring disaster, pleaded for resignation many times, and the eldest grandson of the Queen also tried to persuade her. Emperor Taizong had no choice but to appoint Sun Chang Wuji as the third minister who was blessed and unified.

In the seventh year of Zhenguan (633), it was common for Emperor Taizong to offer sacrifices to Sun Chang Wuji. Sun Chang Wuji's rejection in the above table was rejected, and then he made a request again through Gao Shilian, arguing that taking consorts as the three guilds led to the criticism of "private relatives". Emperor Taizong still refused, saying that the appointment of officials was based on talent and virtue. Sun Chang Wuji personally went to the table to say goodbye, and Taizong replied, "When I was the king of Qin, you were my right-hand man. With your help, I can clean up the space and rule the world. With your merits, talents and reputation, you are fully qualified for three positions. Don't refuse again. " He specially wrote a song "Feng Weifu" for Sun Chang Wuji, remembering the difficulty of starting his own business and Wuji's contribution to life.

In the 11th year of Zhenguan (637), Emperor Taizong named 14 heroes such as Wuji and Fang as hereditary secretariat. Wuji was the secretariat of Zhaozhou and changed to Zhao Guogong. He thought the enfeoffment system was harmful and useless, so he objected: "I have served your majesty through thorns and thorns, and now the four seas are unified, but your majesty wants us to govern foreign counties for generations." What's the difference between this and exile? " Emperor Taizong sighed: "Heroes and heroes are just to let your descendants defend the royal family from generation to generation. How can I force you to fief? " So the enfeoffment system was forgotten. In the 16th year of Zhenguan (642), Sun Chang Wuji visited Stuart.

In the seventeenth year of Zhenguan (643), Emperor Taizong placed portraits of twenty-four heroes in Lingyange, and Sun Chang Wuji ranked first. In April of the same year, Emperor Taizong ordered the Wujihui Tongfang and Xiao Yu to jointly try the case of Prince Li Chenggan's rebellion in Dali Temple, Zhongshu Province and Menxia Province. Soon, Emperor Taizong changed Li Zhi, the king of Jin Dynasty, to the crown prince, and appointed Sun Chang Wuji as the surname of the prince.

In the 19th year of Zhenguan (645), Emperor Taizong made an expedition to Koguryo. Sun Chang Wuji, Cen Wenben and Yang Shidao went to war with the army and served as lieutenant generals. In the battle to besiege Anshi City, Wuji led eleven thousand soldiers to ambush in the valley of northern Shaanxi, attacked the enemy's rear as a surprise soldier, demolished all bridges, cut off Goguryeo reinforcements, and forced the enemy commander to prolong his life and land high.

In the 20th year of Zhenguan (646), Sun Chang Wuji, together with Prince Taifufang and Prince Xiao Yu of Taibao, resigned from the office of the Third Division. In the 21st year of Zhenguan (647), Sun Chang Wuji took Yangzhou from afar. In the 22nd year of Zhenguan (648), Ma Zhou died of illness in Zhongshu. Emperor Taizong appointed Sun Chang Wuji as proofreader, presiding over the affairs of Shangshu Province and Xiamen Province.

Assist Gao zong

In the 23rd year of Zhenguan (649), Emperor Taizong died in Cuiwei Palace, leaving Sun Chang Wuji and Chu Suiliang as assistants. Prince Li Zhi was heartbroken, holding Sun Chang's infinite neck and crying. Sun Chang promised Li Zhi to handle political affairs, but Li Zhi still cried. Mowgli said, "Your majesty gave the ancestral temple to your highness. How can you cry? " He didn't send out obituary, let Li Zhi hurry back to Chang 'an. In June, Prince Li Zhi succeeded Tang Gaozong. Wuji worshipped Qiu and Tong Zhongshu, and still served as the secretariat of Yangzhou, presiding over state affairs. At that time, Wuji was assisted by Yuan Shu, and every suggestion was given priority. Li Hongtai, a native of Luoyang, falsely accused Sun Chang of rebellion against Wuji, and the emperor immediately ordered him to be beheaded.

In the 4th year of Yonghui (653), Tang Gaozong ordered Wuji to try the case of rebellion. Li Ke, the prince of Wu, has a high reputation and has a feud with Sun Chang Wuji. Sun Chang Wuji wanted to kill Li Ke, which was unpopular, so he lied that Li Ke was also involved in the rebellion. In February, people were beheaded. Li Ke was also sentenced to death. Before he died, he cursed: "Sun Chang has never stolen power and framed goodness. If his ancestors had souls, his family would be destroyed. " Li Daozong, king of Jiangxia, and Xu, a captain, were also exiled to Lingnan because of their ineffective thinking and disagreement with Wuji.

In the fifth year of Yonghui (654), he wanted to abolish the king and made (Wu Zetian) the queen. Worried that the minister wouldn't listen, he went to Sun Chang Wuji's home with Wu Zetian to give a banquet, rewarded Jinbao with ten cars, and appointed Mowgli's three illegitimate children as doctors in the DPRK, implying that Mowgli had no children. However, Sun Chang Wuji pretended not to understand the meaning of the emperor and looked around. The emperor returned home disgruntled. Later, Wu Zetian's mother, Yang, went to Wuji's house many times, and Xu, the minister of rites, tried to persuade her, but she was seriously rejected by Wuji.

In the sixth year of Yonghui (655), after Tang Gaozong decided to abolish it, he called Sun Chang Wuji, Li Ji, Yu Zhining and Chu Suiliang into the inner hall to discuss. Li Ji claimed that he was ill, but Yu Zhining dared not speak, while Chu Suiliang strongly opposed it. Although Sun Chang Wuji did not explicitly object, he supported Chu Suiliang to some extent. But in the end, Wang Wei was abolished and Wu Zetian was changed to queen. Wu Zetian bears a grudge against Sun Chang Wuji, because he accepted the reward but refused to support himself.

Be demoted to death

In the fourth year of Xianqing (659), Xu ordered people to present a secret seal, saying that the state was in collusion with Wuji for rebellion. Xu was asked to review with his assistant Xin Mao. Xu said, "Sun Chang Wu has rebelled. I'm worried that he will take emergency measures and call on his comrades when he knows it is exposed, which will be a catastrophe. I hope your majesty can deal with it decisively and arrest it as soon as possible. "

Tang Gaozong cried and said, "How can I have the heart to convict my uncle? What will later historians think of me? " Take the killing of his uncle by Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty as an example. The world thinks that he is the wise master, comforting the emperor, and quoting the old saying that "when he breaks his will, he will be disturbed by it" to urge him to make up his mind. Tang Gaozong did not confront Sun Chang Wuji, so he cut off his official fief and immigrated to Guizhou, where the state sent troops to escort him along the way. Sun Chang Wuji's son was dismissed from office and exiled to Lingnan.

In July of the same year, life and Xu reviewed the case of mowgli rebellion, and Xu ordered Yuan to go to Ganzhou to review the case of mowgli rebellion. When Yuan arrived in Ganzhou, he forced Wuji to hang himself. After the death of Sun Chang Wuji, his property was confiscated, and all his close relatives were exiled to Lingnan as handmaiden.

Anecdotal allusions against Turks

After the alliance between the Turks and the Tang Dynasty, the political situation was chaotic. Most officials in the Tang Dynasty suggested using military force against Turkey. Emperor Taizong said to Sun Chang Wuji and Xiao Yu, "If you don't send troops, you will lose the opportunity to take advantage of the chaos, but if you send troops, you will violate the Covenant. What should we do? " Xiao Yu suggested sending troops, but Sun Chang Wuji said, "Now the country is in a truce, and we can only make a crusade when they invade the border. The Turks have been weakened, and they will definitely not enter the territory. If I go deep into the hinterland of Turkey, I haven't seen the certainty of winning. I think it is more appropriate to stay put for the time being and keep faith. " Taizong took his advice.

Don't talk about it.

Emperor Taizong once said to his courtiers, "Many ministers obeyed the will, but few changed their faces. Now I want to hear my mistake, so don't hide it. " Sun Chang Wuji and others all said, "Your Majesty is not wrong." Later, Emperor Taizong said to Sun Chang Wuji, "People are suffering from their ignorance. You can make it clear to me. " Wuji still said, "Your majesty's martial arts are not as good as ours, so there is nothing wrong with it."

Support Wang Jin

After Emperor Taizong deposed Prince Li Chenggan, he left Wuji and Fang in the Hall of Two Instruments and said to them, "My three sons and one brother (the third refers to Prince Li Chenggan, Wang Taihe and Li You, the first refers to Hanwang) have all done this, and my heart is really depressed." He threw himself on the imperial bed and drew his sword to commit suicide. Sun Chang Wuji and others stood in awe, and quickly came forward to embrace Taizong, grabbed the sword and gave it to Li Zhi, the king of Jin who stood aside, asking Taizong about his choice of the prince. Taizong said, "I want to make A Jin a prince." Wuji said: "I am proud of the imperial edict; If you have any objection, please chop it. " Taizong said to Li Zhidao, "Your uncle promised to make you a prince, so you should thank him." Li Zhi bowed down. Taizong added, "You have made an agreement with me. I wonder what the public opinion is?" Mowgli said, "Jin Rende and Wang Xiao, the world has long yearned for their hearts. Please call a hundred officials to ask. If you don't agree, then I have offended your majesty. " Emperor Taizong then made Li Zhi, king of Jin, a prince.

Although Emperor Taizong made Li a prince, he was worried about his cowardice. He privately said to Sun Changmowgli, "You advised me to establish pheasant slave (the real name of Li Zhi), but pheasant slave is weak, so I'm afraid it can't defend our country. Li Ke, the king of Wu, is decisive, much like me. I want him to be a prince. How about it? " Sun Chang was extremely opposed, and Taizong said with a smile, "Are you opposed because Li Ke is not your nephew?" Mowgli said, "Although the prince is kind, he is the Lord of perseverance. And Chu Jun is very important. How can it be changed many times? Please think clearly. " Taizong gave up.

Empathy between monarch and minister

Emperor Taizong once got a secret statement that Sun Chang was too powerful to spoil. He showed Mowgli the secret watch and said, "There is nothing to doubt between you and me. If we all keep what we hear in mind, then our thoughts can't communicate. " Emperor Taizong also summoned ministers and admonished them in public: "Now my sons are very young. Mowgli has made great contributions to me. I trust him as much as I trust my child. It is unreasonable to alienate close friends and old friends. I won't listen to these words that sow discord. "

When Emperor Taizong was seriously ill, he called Sun Chang Wuji to the temple with the wind and touched his cheek with his hand. Mowgli was heartbroken and wept bitterly. Taizong entrusted the funeral to him and Chu Suiliang, and said to Chu Suiliang, "Wuji has always been loyal to me, and I owe it to his help to have Datang." After I die, you should protect the infinite and don't let the villain sow discord. " Soon, Taizong died.

On the way to make a statement

Tang Gaozong once opened up the road of offering books and giving advice, hoping to find talents from it and promote them for reuse. However, although there are many books, they are worthless and unsuitable for use. Sun Chang Wuji said: "Since your Majesty ascended the throne, all policies have been very correct, without any omissions or mistakes. Of course, those who want to get promoted by luck can't give any useful suggestions. However, your majesty must be honest. If you put an end to speech, I am afraid that your feelings will not be reached. "

The main achievement is that Sun Chang Wuji presided over the revision of the Tang Law, which laid the legal foundation of the Tang Dynasty for more than 200 years.
