The Barber in Seville is a drama written by French writer Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais in 1775, originally named Barbier in Seville. The most famous opera based on this script is the two-act opera Barbier in Sibilla, which was composed by Rossini and written by Steby. There is also an opera adapted from the above script, composed by Pizarro and written by Nicholas Isoward. Although Cicero's version has been popular for some time, Rossini's version has passed the test of time, and has been staged repeatedly since 18 16 premiered in Rome.

The story of The Barber of Seville continues from Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais's play The Wedding of Figaro, and Mozart's opera of the same name was based on it in 1786.
