He admitted that the biggest challenge he encountered when studying in Britain in his early years was his study career. 1979 Zhong Nanshan obtained the qualification of studying abroad in public schools and went to the University of Edinburgh in London, England for further study. However, the British law does not recognize the qualification of Dr. China, and the tutor does not trust Zhong Nanshan, so he has limited his two-year study abroad to eight months. Zhong Nanshan is determined to fight for the motherland. He worked hard, achieved six important achievements and completed seven academic papers, four of which were published in the British Medical Research Society, Anesthesiology Society and Diabetes Society respectively. On May 28th, Zhong Nanshan was invited to give a special academic report on "The Pathogenesis and Treatment of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in China". When the concentration of carbon monoxide in blood reached 15%, colleagues shouted, "It's too dangerous, stop it!" But he thought that this could not meet the experimental design requirements, and he gritted his teeth until the concentration of carbon monoxide in hemoglobin reached 22%. The experiment finally achieved satisfactory results, but Zhong Nanshan almost fainted. You know, this is equivalent to normal people smoking more than 60 cigarettes in a row, plus 800cc of blood. This is especially true in Zhong Nanshan, which fought against SARS in 2003. He insisted on seeking truth from facts, was not afraid of authority, and dared to question the "Chlamydia Theory", which prompted the decision-makers in Guangdong Province to adhere to and strengthen the original prevention and control measures, which is also a very important reason for Guangdong Province to achieve the lowest mortality rate and the highest cure rate of SARS patients. It fully shows the conscience and courage that a scientist should have. People should live in ideals. Zhong Nanshan likes a teaching from a middle school teacher: "People should not only live in reality, but also live in ideals." He often emphasizes to the people around him that a person's ideals and beliefs are the most important and the soul and pillar of the spirit.
