As we all know, Napoléon Bonaparte was a famous French strategist and politician at the end of the 8th century and the beginning of the 9th century. During his sixteen years in power, foreign wars continued, defeating Prussia, Austria, Russia, Spain and other European feudal countries, collectively known as the Napoleonic Wars. Although these wars hit the old feudal rule of various countries, they also plundered the wealth of the occupied countries and aroused the dissatisfaction and resistance of the local people. So some people deny Napoleon's achievements. But I think the Napoleonic Wars also promoted the development of Europe to some extent.
The Napoleonic Wars, at the end of18th century and the beginning of19th century, was a historical era in which European feudalism went to collapse and capitalism rose. The Napoleonic era and the French Revolution are in the same strain. Napoleon's regime, whether it is a formal government or an empire, is a bourgeois regime and serves the interests of the French bourgeoisie. Therefore, although Napoleon's foreign war was compulsory, predatory and aggressive, under the historical conditions at that time, Napoleon's war also had the nature of defending the victory of the French Revolution, and promoted French revolutionary ideas and revolutionary systems to Europe, destroying the feudal order and shaking the feudal system in Europe, creating a prerequisite for the development of European capitalism. Napoleon's contribution to history is undeniable.
First, although the purpose of the "anti-French alliance" is to compete with France for European hegemony, what they want to destroy is the French Revolution, and the purpose of restoring European feudal order is unshakable. Napoleon's repeated defeat of the "anti-French alliance" was a victory in defending the French Revolution. In the end, although Napoleon failed, he saved revolutionary France again and again, protected the fruits of fifteen years of revolutionary victory and consolidated it because of his repeated victories in the war. Later, even if the Bourbon Dynasty was restored twice, it could not be completely eliminated.
Second, the Napoleonic Wars eroded the feudal order of European countries and accelerated the bourgeois reform in Europe. At that time, Europe was mostly a serfdom country with a feudal monarchy. -Germany is composed of more than 300 small states, which are divided politically, extremely backward economically and poor in white industry. The Napoleonic Wars merged Germany from more than 300 divided small countries into more than 30 big countries, which created conditions for the reunification of Germany. This is a time-lapse phenomenon in history.
Second, the Napoleonic Wars spread the idea of the Great Revolution and promoted the bourgeois revolutionary movement in Europe. The bourgeois revolutionary thought of equality, freedom and fraternity put forward by the French Revolution spread to the European continent with Napoleon's expansion, giving the people in feudal countries an ideological weapon against feudalism. Napoleon helped the local bourgeois advanced people to establish a republic and implement the French revolutionary system, which made the idea of freedom and equality during the French Revolution take root among the people of European countries and greatly impacted the feudal order and system in Europe.
We must also mention the Civil Code, which embodies the ideals of the French Revolution in many ways. The Code is not only implemented in France, but also adopted by many other countries after partial revision.
The appearance of Napoleon was influenced by the objective factors of the French Revolution. His unique art of war has been handed down from generation to generation. After his death, his reputation went up and down, but standing on the commanding heights of history, no one can deny that he is a great man full of great charm!
