In the history of western aesthetics, the man known as the father of aesthetics is Alexander Gothley Baumgarton.

In the history of aesthetics, there has always been a view that he was the first to put forward and establish aesthetics, a special philosophical discipline, and used the term "Aesthetics A", so he was known as the "father of aesthetics".

Baum Tong Jia's major aesthetic works are his doctoral thesis Philosophical Thinking on Poetry and his unfinished masterpiece Aesthetics. In addition, he also talked about the aesthetic problems in Metaphysics, Philosophical Letters of Friends of Truth and Outline of Philosophical Encyclopedia. His thoughts had a great influence on German classical idealist aestheticians such as Kant, Schelling and Hegel.

Extended data

Baum Tong Jia entered Harley University on 1730 and was exposed to the philosophy of Christian Wolf. Like Gott Schet, he is a student of Woolf. He was an supernumerary professor from 65438 to 0737, and a professor at Frankfurt University from 65438 to 0739. During this period, he published a series of works on philosophy, ethics, logic and aesthetics.

There are two kinds of his specialized aesthetic works: One is Philosophical Meditation on Poetry, which was his dissertation published in 1735 in September of the same year, in which the viewpoint that aesthetics is a unique philosophical discipline was put forward for the first time.

The other is aesthetics. The first volume was published in 1750 and the second volume was published in 1758. However, due to the death of the author, this work was not completed. According to Baumgarden's concept, aesthetics should include theoretical part and practical part.

Baum Tong Jia's Aesthetics only accounts for one third of the theoretical part (the other two parts are "methodology" and "semiotics"), while the practical part (art theory) is not involved at all. In addition, some chapters in his philosophical work Metaphysics discuss aesthetic problems.
