Yan Zhen was born in 1957 in Changsha, Hunan. 1984 graduated from the Chinese Department of Peking University, and 1988 obtained a master's degree in literature from Hunan Normal University. Now he is a professor at the School of Literature, Central South University. He is the author of the novel The Water of Canglang, The End of the World Once, the theoretical work Centennial Literature and Postmodernism, and dozens of academic papers on literary theory, as well as the collection of essays, Overlapping of Spirits and Sacrifice Without Witness.
