(2) Besides Fusarium wilt, rootstocks should also be able to resist other diseases or stresses, such as low temperature, drought and humidity. Generally, pumpkin rootstocks have the strongest resistance to Fusarium wilt of melons, and are resistant to low temperature and cold. Gourd rootstock is not as good as pumpkin in resistance to Fusarium wilt, low temperature and drought, but it is relatively moisture-resistant. The low-temperature elongation of different rootstocks is pumpkin, gourd, cucumber and wax gourd from strong to weak.
(3) Effect of rootstock on fruit quality of scion varieties According to related experiments, watermelon fruit with pumpkin as rootstock has thickened peel, hardened pulp and poor flavor quality; Watermelon fruit with wax gourd as rootstock has softened pulp, reduced sugar content and poor flavor quality. Only watermelon fruit with gourd as rootstock has no obvious difference in quality indexes compared with watermelon self-rooted seedlings, and can maintain the original flavor characteristics of the variety.
