Zhou Mingcang 1924 was admitted to the College of Agriculture of Nanjing Jinling University, 1929 graduated with a bachelor's degree in agriculture. /kloc-0 went to Cornell university in August, 930, majoring in entomology. He received a master's degree in science and a doctor's degree in philosophy in 193 1 and 1933 respectively, and was elected as a member of the honorary society of the United States and won the golden key award. 1933 After returning to China, he has served as a professor and director of pests and diseases at the Agricultural College of National Zhejiang University, a first-class technical director at Guangxi Agricultural Management Office, a professor and dean at the Agricultural College of National Guangxi University, a researcher at Guilin Science Experimental Museum, a professor and director of pests and diseases at Fujian Agricultural College, and a researcher at the Institute of Animals and Plants of Fujian Research Institute. 1946- 10 was employed as the professor and director of entomology at the National Peking University Agricultural College.

1In the autumn of 949, Zhou Mingcang became a professor and head of the entomology department of Beijing Agricultural University. After the adjustment of 1952, he served as professor and head of plant protection department until 1983 (1956 was rated as a first-class professor); 198 1 was elected as the first doctoral supervisor; In addition, he has served as deputy director of the Academic Committee of Beijing Agricultural University, member of the Academic Committee of China Academy of Agricultural Sciences and deputy director of the Institute of Plant Protection, vice chairman of the Chinese Insect Society, vice chairman of the Chinese Plant Protection Society, member of the National Committee for the Examination and Approval of Natural Science Terminology (later renamed the National Committee for the Examination and Approval of Scientific and Technological Terminology), editor-in-chief of the Journal of Applied Insects, deputy editor-in-chief of the Journal of Insects and deputy editor-in-chief of the Journal of Plant Protection. Member of editorial board of China Agricultural Encyclopedia, editor-in-chief of plant protection group of China Agricultural Encyclopedia, member of the 4th, 5th and 6th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, etc. 1956, joined the China * * * production party.

Zhou Mingzang is a pioneer in the establishment and development of agricultural entomology in China, an advocate of the combination of integrated agricultural pest control and agricultural control, and the founder of plant pest resistance research in China. During his working career of nearly 70 years, he combined teaching, scientific research and production organically based on the principle of integrating theory with practice and seeking truth from facts, and made unremitting efforts, making fundamental and pioneering contributions to the theory and practice of pest control and plant pest resistance. His academic thoughts gave birth to the basic principle of "integrated pest management", which was widely accepted by international plant protection scientists and technicians. He once conceived the guiding ideology of multi-resistance breeding, carried out targeted work and bred multi-resistance and high-yield varieties such as "64 10" and "6407". The idea was put forward and the work was carried out at the earliest in China and earlier in the world.

Zhou Mingzang trained 16 doctoral students and more than 20 master students. He has published more than 100 academic papers at home and abroad, and published more than 10 monographs and teaching materials such as Agricultural Pests in North China, List of Main Pests in China, Agricultural Entomology and Principles and Applications of Plant Insect Resistance. Among them, the paper "Preliminary List of Economic Plant Pests and Mites in China" is not only the first list of crop pests in China, but also the basic document of early agricultural entomology in China. Agricultural Entomology is the first trial textbook in agricultural colleges and universities in China. Its scientific research achievements won the first prize of technical progress of the Ministry of Agriculture, the second prize of scientific and technological progress and the second prize of national scientific and technological progress with 1980, 1986 and 1988 respectively. 1993, awarded "honorary award of agricultural university" in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the construction and development of the school.

Zhou Mingzang is an agricultural entomologist and an agricultural educator. Pioneer of modern agricultural entomology in China. It has made important contributions to the development and perfection of the theoretical system of agricultural entomology in China. He advocated the theory of integrated control of agricultural pests and agricultural control; It laid a foundation for the discipline of plant insect resistance in China.

Zhou Mingcang, born as Shengji, 1907, was born in Tai County, Jiangsu Province (now Hai 'an County) on September 9. Smart and studious since childhood. 1920 was admitted to the eighth middle school in Jiangsu province. 1924 After graduation, he was admitted to the Agricultural College of Jinling University. Influenced and valued successively by entomologists Bode (USA) and Professor Zhang Jubo, he majored in entomology and chose biological genetics and breeding hosted by Professor Shen. Because of his excellent academic performance, he graduated from February 1929 six months ahead of schedule with a bachelor's degree in agronomy. 1August, 930 to study entomology at Cornell University Graduate School in the United States. He received a master of science degree and a doctor of philosophy degree in 193 1 and 1933 respectively, and was selected as a student of the American Sigma -Xi Honorary Society and won the Golden Key Award. During his study in the United States, Zhou Mingzang made full use of the books collected in the school library, extensively collected information, and combined with relevant domestic documents, compiled a long list of economic plant pests and mites in China, which was the first list of crop pests in China and the early basic document of agricultural entomology in China, and was paid attention to by Chinese and foreign entomological circles.

From 65438 to 0933, Zhou Mingzang returned to China and was employed as a professor and head of the department of plant diseases and insect pests at the Agricultural College of Zhejiang University. Under his planning, the newly-built teaching building, greenhouse and laboratory were first-class in China at that time, and the scale and equipment of insect laboratory were comparable to those of American universities, which laid the foundation for the construction and development of the department. In addition to being busy with teaching and departmental work, he also closely linked with production to carry out scientific research; In cooperation with Liu Zhiying and Ma Tonglun, he established a research station in Lanxi County, Zhejiang Province, engaged in the prevention and control of inchworm, and achieved gratifying results. After the outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Zhejiang University moved westward 1938, and Zhou Mingzang moved to Guangxi with several people. I worked as a technical manager in Guangxi Agricultural Management Office. 1939 was employed as a professor and dean of the Agricultural College of Guangxi University. At that time, he hired many famous domestic scholars to teach in the college, such as Wu Shaokui and Weng Deqi from the Department of Agriculture, Wang Zhenru and Ma Dapu from the Department of Forestry, Cheng Shifu from the Department of Horticulture, Zheng Geng from the Department of Veterinary Medicine, and a number of part-time experts such as Huang Ruilun, Sun, Xu Tianxi and Lv Dajing, which made the College of Agriculture of Guangxi University famous for a while. 194 1 In the spring of, Zhou Mingcang was hired by Li Siguang, director of Guilin Science Experimental Museum, as an entomological researcher in the museum, engaged in the study of Anopheles, and preliminarily found out the fauna of Anopheles in Guangxi in a short time. 194 1 At the end of the year, he was hired as a professor and head of the Department of Pests and Diseases of Fujian Agricultural College to personally teach agricultural entomology and insect taxonomy. In addition to teaching, many studies have been carried out on the prevention and control of rice stem borer in winter and stored rice weevil. From 65438 to 0946, he was transferred to Fujian Institute of Animals and Plants to cooperate with Zheng to solve the important pest problem of citrus leaf miner. In the autumn of the same year, at the invitation of Dean Yu Dalong of Peking University Agricultural College, he was appointed as a professor and head of entomology department. People's Republic of China (PRC) was founded in 1949. In the same year, Peking University, Tsinghua University, North China University and other agricultural colleges merged to form Beijing Agricultural University, and Zhou Mingcang was the head of the Department of Plant Protection until the spring of 1983 due to his age. After leaving his post, he continued to teach and undertake national scientific and technological research projects. (1September 1995, with the approval of the State Council, Beijing Agricultural University and Beijing Agricultural Engineering University merged to form China Agricultural University).

Zhou Mingzang 1952 joined China Democratic League, and 1956 joined China Producers Party. Elected as the fourth, fifth and sixth members of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He is the vice chairman of the Chinese entomological society; Vice chairman and consultant of China Plant Protection Society. Former editor-in-chief of Journal of Applied Entomology. Deputy editor-in-chief of Journal of Entomology; Deputy editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief of Journal of Plant Protection; Editorial Committee of Encyclopedia of China; Editor-in-Chief of Plant Protection Group of Encyclopedia of China Agricultural Volume; Member of agronomy group of National Natural Science Terminology Examination Committee, etc.
