Speech at the Awarding Conference of "National 100 Excellent Doctoral Dissertations"

First of all, I'm honored. "National 100 excellent doctoral dissertations" is a national honor, and only 1 doctor of theoretical economics wins this honor every year. Being able to win this grand prize in many competitions is the most weighty encouragement of many predecessors and academic colleagues. All previous winners have left their marks on economics, and they have added luster to this award with excellent results. It is fortunate to be able to join them and promote the popularization and improvement of China's economic education and scientific research level. In fact, "Youbo" is the first and last praise published in my school days. I have never been rewarded by the school for my academic thesis before. Of course, I am not a person who is indifferent to fame and fortune. Individuals gain fame and fortune in the process of realizing their ideals through hard work, and use fame and fortune to further promote the realization of their ideals. This is an incentive mechanism. Jean Lafonte, a famous economist who died, once lamented that it would be more beneficial for him to spread modern economics in France if he won the Nobel Prize in Economics. What is important is that fame and fortune are tools, not the goal itself, or at least not the whole goal.

Secondly, I am very happy. In the world of asymmetric information, everyone who participates in the competition should try to send a signal indicating their type. Thanks to Professor Yang Ruilong, my doctoral thesis supervisor, who gave me an important opportunity to show my own type. In China, where competition for various awards is fierce, "Youbo" is still a credible signal, which makes me very happy. Dwight Morrow said: "There are two kinds of people in this world, one is those who do things, and the other is those who enjoy success. If you have the opportunity, try to be the first person, because there is less competition there. " If a person can spend less energy to gain fame as a type signal, of course, he can spend more energy to do things. I am also sincerely happy for Professor Yang Ruilong. I think at this moment, nothing can better reflect the outstanding achievements of a mentor than his disciple winning this honor for the second time. Of course, under the secular system, I still need other signals to show my type. China's economic reform has a long way to go, and many young people need to fight for it. These young people still need to send a signal. We hope that there will be more awards similar to Youbo, which can be provided to young people fairly as a full statistic of their research level.

Finally, I am very happy. I was born in a poor peasant family in Jiangxi, and I worked hard to finish my studies and subsidize my family. Few people have experienced the test of academic ideals by poverty more profoundly than I have. I am lucky, because it is said that Youbo will have a project grant, which can temporarily alleviate my financial difficulties and give me another hope for my future life. However, there are thousands of young students and scholars in Qian Qian who forget to eat or sleep. Their research level and achievements are not necessarily inferior to mine, but they are not lucky enough to get an excellent blog. We sincerely hope that one day, all young students who are willing to engage in academic research can study and research with peace of mind instead of worrying about their present and future livelihood every day. People should understand that wealth and IQ are not positively related, so education should provide the most important opportunities in life for the poor who are interested in academic research. I am convinced that real economics is universal and practical, and the efforts of economists will eventually win belated applause.
