Shen Pengfei's contribution
Shen Pengfei devoted his life to forestry education and forestry science, compiled the first lecture on rubber management in China and edited Forest Management. Organize the construction of Baiyun Mountain Forest Farm, organize and lead the resource survey of Xisha Islands and the forest survey of Hainan Island. He is honorary chairman of the 4th China Forestry Society and China Environmental Remote Sensing Society, and chairman of Guangdong Forestry Society and Guangdong Remote Sensing Research Society.

Shen Pengfei thinks: "Forestry education must be combined with forestry production practice and scientific research". He is rigorous in his studies, earnest in his teaching, attaches importance to integrating theory with practice, and is good at learning from others. The main representatives are: Investigation Report on Xisha Islands, Relationship between Agriculture and Forestry, Progress of Guangdong Afforestation Movement and Forestry Education, Practical Opinions and Problems of Attaching Importance to and Developing Forest Managers —— China Forest Managers, and Discussion and Work Report on the Construction of Southern Remote Sensing Experimental Site. Educational papers include: My Humble Opinion on Handling Agricultural Special Education, An Account of those who changed from Agricultural College to University, Mission and Overview of Agriculture and Forestry Discipline of Sun Yat-sen University, and A Hundred Years' Brief History of Forestry Education in Guangdong. 1 Shen Pengfei. Shen Pengfei not only has profound forestry attainments, but also has research in many disciplines. This provided conditions for him to carry out a wide range of academic activities. As early as the early days of the founding of New China, he and the older generation of forestry experts such as Liang and Yin Liangbi initiated the establishment of chinese society of forestry, and was elected as the first, second and third executive director and the fourth honorary chairman of chinese society of forestry. In the early 1980s, he was elected honorary chairman of China Environmental Remote Sensing Society and consultant of China Forestry Education Research Association. Before 1983, he served as the chairman of Guangdong Forestry Society, participated in the establishment of Guangdong Ecological Society and Guangdong Remote Sensing Society, actively participated in the activities of more than a dozen academic organizations such as Guangdong Botanical Society, Guangdong Bird Protection Association and Guangdong Technical Economy and Modern Management Research Association, and held honorary positions among them. From 65438 to 0979, he organized a scientific investigation team of 42 people from forestry, hydropower and other relevant units, and trudged to six counties, including Yangjiang, Dianbai, Wuchuan, Luoding, Yunan and Deqing, and put forward a set of opinions on soil and water conservation in Guangdong from institutional team to biological and engineering management. In June 5438+February of the same year, a scientific investigation team and local departments were organized to investigate and analyze the water source forest in the upper reaches of Xijiang River, and the relationship between the "July 25" catastrophic flood in Huidong County and deforestation and ecological balance was pointed out and demonstrated. 1March, 1980, 30 experts and scholars from unit 15 were again organized to inspect the water source forests in the upper reaches of Liuxi River and Zengjiang River, and put forward the principles of defining water source forests, the ways of protection and development of water source forests, the management principles and suggestions for reforming the system to relevant departments.

From 1955 to 1, Shen Pengfei served as the first, second, third and fourth CPPCC member of Guangdong Province. 1978 was elected as the deputy of Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, and the following year 12 was elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress. At several meetings of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress Standing Committee and the Guangdong Provincial Political Consultative Conference, he spoke on issues such as maintaining Guangdong's ecological balance and promoting socialist construction, and made various suggestions on forestry construction. He actively carried out academic exchanges at home and abroad, and even secretly advanced funds for some projects. 1June, 1979 to 10/October, he was a member of the Eighth Committee of the Central Committee of China Agricultural Workers' Democratic Party and vice chairman of Guangdong Provincial Committee, and was enthusiastic about cross-strait exchanges and overseas friendship. After the Cultural Revolution, he donated his reissued salary to the Science and Technology Development Award Foundation of China Forestry Society.

The most prominent feature of Shen Pengfei's scholarship lies in the unity of theory and practice. He has always stressed that theory should explain practical problems, serve production and construction, and come from reality at the same time. He once vividly pointed out: "Basic theory is very important, but we should pay attention to connecting with reality and serve it as much as possible. For example, it is not complete to talk only about morphological classification, ecological conditions for its growth and development, and introduction of their uses. Selling advertisements will also talk about use. "

In 1950s, in order to make the teaching of Forestry Department of South China Agricultural College better proceed from the reality of South China, he specially contacted the Ministry of Forestry to set up the South China Forestry Research Office, and personally served as the director. He took the lead in studying mountain price, camellia oleifera management and its technical and economic problems in the forest area. He is one of the researchers who introduced technical economy into forestry, especially economic forest.

In 1960s, in order to study the main cutting and regeneration of tropical forests in China, he personally established the experimental area of main cutting and regeneration of tropical forests in Bawangling Forestry Bureau of Hainan Island. When he boarded the experimental forest again at the age of 87, a lush forest vividly explained the cutting and regeneration law of tropical forests in Hainan and showed the achievements of China forestry scholars in tropical forest research.

China's historic transformation, which began in the late 1970s, once again made Shen Pengfei passionate about the future of the motherland. He wrote a poem: "The sun is still beautiful at the end of the year, and spring is rare in life." In his later years, he concentrated on two tasks. First, the Forest Manager Laboratory was established in South China Agricultural College, which is one of the earliest forest manager laboratories established in China universities. One is to promote the development of environmental remote sensing in Guangdong, and establish the first remote sensing test site of China forestry-Southern Forestry Remote Sensing Test Site under the auspices of the Ministry of Forestry. On the first anniversary of the construction, he personally wrote a summary of the construction.

In the last few years of his life, Shen Pengfei still studied and worked tirelessly. Even when he was hospitalized with a high fever, he wrote a paper for the academic conference of Forestry Society in 1980, and entrusted an assistant to read it on his behalf. After the meeting, a group of southern forest management scholars requested to hold a seminar on southern forest management theory in order to further explore the ways of southern forest management and promote the development of forestry construction in southern China. He readily agreed, and during the preparatory period, he renamed the symposium "Southern Forest Manager Theory and Practice Symposium", emphasizing the unity of theory and practice. In addition to forest managers, ecologists, economists and system engineers also participated in this seminar, forming a multidisciplinary comprehensive academic activity. 198 1 after the forum, a number of forest managers have been piloted in collective forest areas in Fujian, Hunan and Yunnan. Shen Pengfei also personally set up an experimental field for the sustainable utilization of zygote forest in Longmen County, Guangdong Province, turning this small mountain village with less than 20 households into the place with the highest per capita income in the county. 198 1 year later, the seminar on the theory and practice of southern forest managers initiated by him has gradually formed a center for regular academic exchanges of southern forest managers in China.

1982, Shen Pengfei was 90 years old, still running from north to south, constantly fighting in the front line of scientific research and teaching. In the spring of this year, at the national annual meeting of environmental remote sensing held in Nanjing, the delegates congratulated him on his 90th birthday. In May, hundreds of people from all walks of life in Guangdong Province solemnly celebrated his 60th anniversary and 90th birthday in science education. Guangdong provincial leaders and scholars warmly congratulated him. Disciples from all over the country, some with white hair and some in their prime, sincerely thank him for cultivating themselves. He said cheerfully that he must make more contributions to the motherland and the people in his later years. In June, he went to Beijing for a meeting. In July, I went to the Northeast to inspect the forest resources and the remote sensing test site of northern forestry, and carefully studied the forestry construction in Northeast China. On the way back to the south via Beijing, the plane was stranded in Tianjin due to a thunderstorm. After arriving in Beijing, regardless of fatigue, he used his day in Beijing to lie on the narrow table of the guest house and wrote a report of thousands of words, which was sent to the then Minister of Forestry, and put forward some ideas and suggestions on forestry construction. In August, after he returned to Guangzhou, the school originally arranged for him to spend his holiday in Zhongshan County, but he used this time to study with local forestry cadres and personally climbed Wugui Mountain to see the situation of a remote sensing research project. It was in this last exercise that he caught a cold and became pneumonia. 10 During his hospitalization, he personally drafted the infrastructure plan of the forest manager's research room from his hospital bed. 165438+1In the middle and late October, he asked his assistant to prepare materials for him to study the new situation of forestry construction in South China. 19 At the beginning of February, he optimistically estimated that he would leave the hospital soon and began to plan the work of 1983. Unexpectedly, by the middle of May 438+February, the condition deteriorated for the second time. At this time, it coincides with the fifth National Congress of China Forestry Society. He dictated a congratulatory message to the conference to his assistant: "I earnestly hope that more young and middle-aged people will join the Council" and "May the green mountains and green waters set off the red China more brilliantly". The lines between the lines are full of this old forestry scientist's grand wish of greening the motherland and building modern forestry. 1983 65438+1On October 6th, this scholar of the older generation in China forestry industry finally left his forestry job for life. China is a famous forestry educator and scientist in modern times, and a pioneer of higher agriculture and forestry education in modern China.
