The American (International) Mathematical Modeling Competition for College Students is sponsored by COMAP (Mathematics and Its Application Federation).
MCM began in 1985, and ICM began in 2000. The contest was hosted by COMAP, the American Federation of Mathematics and Its Applications, and sponsored by the American Association of Logistics and Industrial and Applied Mathematics, the American Association of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the American Mathematical Association.

The Mathematical Modeling Competition for American College Students has set up five awards, namely, Outstanding Award, Final Award, Meritorious Award, Honorary Award and Successful Participant. In China, it is customary to correspond these five prizes to the grand prize, the candidate prize for the grand prize, the first prize, the second prize and the third prize respectively.
