The College of Humanities includes China Language and Literature and History. There are five undergraduate majors: Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese Language and Literature, Journalism, History, and Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (jointly established with Foreign Languages Institute), among which Chinese Language and Literature and History are provincial-level key majors, and Chinese Language and Literature (Normal University) is a provincial-level specialty. The teaching team of history major is a provincial teaching team. There are four departments: Literature Department, Chinese Department, History Department, Journalism Department and University Chinese Department. There are two provincial key social science research bases, "China Ancient Literature and Social Culture Research Base" and "Hunan Dialect and Folk Culture Research Base". Two university-level research institutes have been established: Hunan Institute of Local History and Institute of Local Media Development. It has a multi-functional language laboratory, a language laboratory and a news laboratory. There are more than 84,000 books and 3,000 periodicals in the reference room. The College of Humanities has a strong faculty, with reasonable professional titles, academic qualifications and age structure. There are 90 faculty members, including 25 professors and 27 associate professors. Professor Yang Pengcheng was rated as one of the top 100 teachers in the first national college teaching, one of the top ten teachers' morality pacesetters in Hunan Province, and an excellent teacher in Hunan Province. Professor Wu Guangping is an excellent teacher at the provincial level. In recent three years, he has published 40 monographs and 673 academic papers, and won 13 provincial scientific research awards, 2 provincial teaching and scientific research awards and 1 provincial textbook awards. The eight humanities colleges undertaking the research project of the National Social Science Fund have reasonable professional orientation, high teaching quality and comprehensive graduates' quality. In the past three years, the one-time employment rate has reached more than 90%, which is widely welcomed by employers.
