1 If word wants to automatically generate the table of contents, it is impossible to establish an outline index that the system can understand, which is the premise of automatically generating the table of contents. As shown in the figure, first select the title, as shown in the figure.
2 In the Start tab, select the format as shown in the figure, and select your favorite directory format structure.
3 After selection, the title will establish an outline index, and there will also be the default title format of word. As shown in the figure.
4 In the same way, the index of directory structure such as title 2 and title 3 is gradually established, as shown in the figure.
Similarly, we set an outline index for all the titles in the whole document, as shown in the figure.
Second, the directory is automatically generated and updated.
The premise of 1 is ready, and then we will generate the directory. First, position the cursor to the location where the directory is stored. Then, click the tab reference directory automatic directory 1 or 2, as shown in the figure.
2 The directory will be generated automatically, as shown in the figure.
3 If multiple articles are updated or the directory structure is adjusted, you need to update the domain of the directory, as shown in the figure, click the directory and right-click the drop-down menu-Update Domain.
It is recommended to update the whole directory to avoid missing it. Click OK to update.
Third, customize the directory format
1 If you are not satisfied with the default directory format, you need to customize it. As shown in the figure, click the reference directory and insert the directory.
As shown in the figure, there are many options for setting the directory format, such as whether to display the page, whether the page is right-aligned, how many levels to display, and so on.
At the same time, you can set the font size and format of the directory, as shown in the figure. Click Modify to select the directory to modify. Click Modify to see the adjustment of related fonts, spacing and other related formats. Click OK after customizing the changes.
4 After all the custom settings are completed, click OK, and a replacement prompt box will appear in the place just listed, as shown in the figure. Just click "Yes".
You can see the effect of comparing this directory with the previous directory as shown in the figure. Of course, you can also customize the more complex directory format you like.
