First, the file formatting method

This method is to convert the damaged Word document into another format, and then convert it back to the Word document format. This is the simplest and most thorough document recovery method.

1. After opening the damaged document in Word, select File → Save As and select RTF format (*. Rtf), and then click Save.

2. Close the damaged document, open the RTF file just saved, select File → Save As, and select Word document (*. Doc), and then click Save.

3. Close the RTF document and open the modified Word document.

Word documents will retain their formatting when converted to RTF. If the file damage cannot be corrected by this conversion, you can try to convert to other Word processing formats, which will preserve the format of the Word document to some extent. If none of these formats can solve this problem, you can convert the document into plain text format (*. Txt), and then return to the Word format. Because of the simplicity of plain text, this method may correct the damage, but all the formats of the Word document will be lost.

Second, the reformatting method.

Word uses the last paragraph mark in a document to associate various formatting information, especially the formatting of sections and styles. In this way, we can copy all the contents except the last mark into the new document, and it is possible to leave the damaged contents in the original document. The steps are as follows:

1. Open the damaged document in Word, select Tools → Options, then select the Edit tab, and uncheck the checkbox "Select range using smart paragraphs". Uncheck this check box. When the entire paragraph is selected, Word will not automatically select the paragraph marker, and then click OK.

2. Press the key combination of "Ctrl+End" and then press the key combination of "Ctrl+Shift+Home" to select all the contents except the last mark.

3. In the standard toolbar, click Copy, New and Paste.
