Liang Shiqiu (1903- 1987), formerly known as Liang Zhihua, took his pen names Zijia, Qiulang and Chengshu. China is a famous essayist, scholar, literary critic and translator. He was the first authority on Shakespeare in China. His ancestral home was in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, and he was born in Beijing.

After 40, Liang Shiqiu focused more on prose and translation. It has been more than 20 years since the publication of 1949. The translation of Shakespeare's works began in 1930s and lasted for 40 years. By 1970, the complete works of Shakespeare had been translated, with 37 plays and 3 poems. In his later years, it took him seven years to complete a million-word book, The History of English Literature.
