This paper discusses the origin and development of the research field of electromagnetic wave stealth, and points out that it will inevitably lead to a revolution in radar technology. For combat aircraft, this paper takes the stealth aircraft F- 1 17 of the United States as an example, and analyzes its stealth principle and design ideas in detail. It is pointed out that two technical indexes should be used to describe the correlation level of aircraft, namely "average frontal scattering cross section" (σa) and "average lateral scattering cross section" (σb). The function and usage of absorbing materials are discussed. Some trends of theoretical work in recent years are pointed out. In particular, the significance of guided wave theory research to RCS calculation (and reducing RCS value) is discussed
