I. Professional overview
Princeton University provides accommodation for graduate students, which makes the graduate education in Princeton University even better. Small class seminars (generally 5- 15 students) are offered for philosophy graduate students, so that students have sufficient opportunities to consult their teachers. Every year, 40 philosophy graduate students live on campus, and the teacher-student ratio is about 1:2.
This major does not accept applications from students who want to eventually get a master's degree in arts, but only students who seek to pursue a doctorate. The academic system is generally 4 or 5 years. The first four semesters of postgraduate study are usually formal courses and independent research. After the end of the fifth semester, students must take a unified examination. Students who pass this exam mean that they have the ability to be scholars and continue to write doctoral thesis.
As a doctor of philosophy, after graduation, I can teach in universities, some vocational research institutions, publishing houses, periodicals and magazines, as well as government agencies and civil servants.
