Digital writing norms in English thesis writing
Many numbers are often involved in English thesis writing. Whether to use words (one, two, three, ...) or Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, ...) needs to follow certain rules.

1) Generally speaking, single digits (1~9) are usually expressed in words, and multiple digits (≥ 10) tend to use Arabic numerals;

2) Follow the principles of readability, easy writing and consistency;

3) Statistically significant numbers connected by unit symbols are generally Arabic numerals;

4) When expressing approximate numbers, only English numbers can be used, such as "about five dreams" and "about forty days";

5) Arabic numerals should not appear at the beginning of a sentence;

6) When two numbers are connected, one is written and the other is edited to see which way is short, such as "36 50-watt amplifiers" or "the third six 50-watt amplifiers";

7) Numbers with more than four digits should be separated by spaces of 1/4 every three digits. At present, commas are still used as separators in many books and periodicals. In view of the fact that some countries use commas to represent decimal points, in order to avoid confusion, the International Organization for Standardization suggests that numbers should be separated by spaces in scientific and technological books and periodicals, such as "9 600 000km". Recommend scientific counting methods in sci-tech books and periodicals;

(5) Because the figures of "billion", "trillion" and "trillion times" in Britain and America are different, they should be avoided in scientific and technological manuscripts. For example, "65.438+0.25 billion population" is best expressed as "the population of".
