Background of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Joint Examination
Over the past 20 years of reform and opening up, with the rapid economic growth, Chinese mainland's higher education has also made great progress. Since 1978, a large number of mainland elites have gone abroad to study. The rapid development of the mainland has attracted a large number of overseas students to return to work, which has greatly changed the faculty structure of mainland universities. Especially in recent years, the central and local governments in Chinese mainland have increased their investment in higher education, and the conditions for running schools and the teaching staff of colleges and universities have been greatly improved. Campus facilities in many universities are not inferior to or even better than those in developed regions in the world. Some universities, such as Peking University and Tsinghua University, have spent more on scientific research than those in Hongkong and Taiwan Province.

China's economy is in a period of rapid development, and its national strength and international influence are rapidly improving. The rapid development of the country will provide a good development opportunity for a new generation of young students.

Development trend of China

In 2007, China's total foreign trade volume surpassed Germany to become the second in the world, and may surpass the United States to become the first in the world in 20 10.

According to the data of the International Monetary Fund, in 2007, China has surpassed the United States and become the locomotive to promote the development of the world economy.

Rogers, the founder of American Quantum Fund, predicted that 2 1 century would be the century of China.

Hong Kong's economy is increasingly dependent on the mainland: more than half of the tourists visiting Hong Kong are mainland tourists, and more than 70% of Hong Kong's stock market turnover is Chinese-funded enterprises.

Advantages of mainland universities

While mainland students go to Hong Kong to study, a large number of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students also come to the Mainland to study. This exchange also reflects some advantages of mainland university education.

After the college entrance examination, many universities in Hong Kong opened their doors to mainland students. Good teaching conditions and high scholarships have attracted the attention of a large number of high-scoring candidates. When they gave up mainland universities and chose to go to Hong Kong for further study, a group of students embarked on the opposite journey, that is, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students studying in mainland universities.

Cai Jingying, a student of China Renmin University, comes from Hongkong and is now a graduate student of business administration in 2005. Because her parents went to work in the mainland, she went to the National People's Congress. She told the Tribune reporter of the International Herald Tribune that Hong Kong's commercial activities are relatively saturated, and the mainland is a huge market, which is likely to become the commercial and financial center of Asia in the future. Studying in the mainland can give you many opportunities that you can't get in Hong Kong.

Xia Wenzhen is from Taiwan Province Province. I graduated from Fu Jen Catholic University with a bachelor's degree and graduated from Taiwan Province Provincial University with a master's degree. Now studying for a doctorate at Peking University Law School. Because his master's thesis is about Chinese mainland's economic law, Xia Wenzhen wanted to do further research in this field, so he simply went to a university in mainland China to study. He believes that Chinese mainland's graduate education emphasizes the concept of mentoring. The tutor's personality and academic quality will have a far-reaching impact on students. Tutors are also very concerned about students' study and life, and the relationship between teachers and students is full of human feelings. This is very different from Taiwan Province Province. He introduced that when studying for a doctorate in Taiwan Province Province, he would not arrange a tutor for the first two years, but taught himself. Only in the last year, according to the direction of the thesis topic, choose a thesis tutor to guide the thesis writing.

Xia Wenzhen, who has received higher education in three schools, summed up two advantages of Peking University: First, the degree of internationalization is high. He told the Tribune reporter of the International Herald Tribune that Peking University provided many opportunities for students to exchange abroad. In addition, in some international seminars, they can meet many masters that they have no chance to meet in Taiwan Province Province. Peking University also offers many courses taught by foreign teachers, through which you can directly understand foreign cultures, which is unmatched by Taiwan Province provincial universities. The second feature is that there are many lectures. There are more than a dozen lectures in Peking University almost every day, the density of which is much higher than that of universities in Taiwan Province Province, which is very beneficial for students to better master what they have learned and broaden their knowledge.

Zhang Jinfen, a student from Taiwan Province Province who is also studying at Peking University, believes that Peking University has a long tradition and profound cultural heritage, and it is her long-standing dream to study here. At Peking University, what impressed her the most were the old professors who were academically equal but indifferent to fame and fortune and did not pursue material life. Their rigorous research spirit left a deep impression on her.

Wu, now living in Macau, is a 2005 graduate student majoring in law at Renmin University of China. When asked about the advantages of university education in mainland China, he said that mainland teachers have comprehensive knowledge. In addition, the learning atmosphere of mainland universities is stronger than that of Macao. Before coming to the mainland, Wu imagined that Renmin University should have a strong political atmosphere, and students' speeches were dogmatic. But after coming, he found that the students here are also very active, and the community activities are also very rich, which is not much different from Macao.

The number of mainland students from Hongkong, Macau and Taiwan Province is increasing.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of mainland university education compared with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan? On this issue, the reporter interviewed Xiang Xianming, a professor at the Comparative Education Research Center of Beijing Normal University. Xiang Xianming said that Hong Kong's university teachers come from all over the world, teaching in both Chinese and English, and the scholarships are much higher than those in the mainland, which should be an important reason why many mainland students are willing to study in Hong Kong. However, there are also some problems in universities in Hong Kong. For example, because the academic system is shorter than that in the Mainland (three years), some disciplines are not necessarily as solid as those in the Mainland.

Regarding the situation in Taiwan Province Province, Xiang Xianming said: "Because the authorities in Taiwan Province Province do not recognize mainland education, the obstacles for students in Taiwan Province Province to study in the mainland are greater than those in Hong Kong and Macao. However, higher education in Taiwan Province Province is very common, and the employment pressure is much greater than that in mainland China. In addition, many children in Taiwan Province Province have followed their business parents to the mainland since childhood, so it is normal for more and more students from Taiwan Province Province to study in mainland schools. "

According to Xu Zidong, a professor of Chinese Department at Lingnan University in Hong Kong, the International Herald Tribune, Hong Kong students go to universities in Commonwealth countries, first in Britain, Australia and Canada, and then in the United States. Because British and American universities have higher scholarships. Only about 20% of high school graduates will stay in Hong Kong to go to college.

As for students who choose to study in the mainland, Xu Zidong's analysis mainly has two types:

One is young people with ideals, ambitions and foresight. Because Hong Kong is small, there are restrictions on the development of many professions and fields. For example, it is obviously unrealistic to study aerospace and desertification control in Hong Kong, but it is relatively easy to achieve in mainland schools. Young people with foresight in Hong Kong will be willing to study in the Mainland. Of course, there are still some people who are realistic. Their grades are not good enough to be admitted to universities in Hong Kong. Studying in the mainland has become the second best choice. Because the admission rate of universities in Hong Kong is much lower than that in the Mainland.

"The advantage of mainland universities lies in the huge number of students, and another big advantage lies in their labor market. Many Hong Kong students will stay there to do their favorite jobs after finishing their studies in the Mainland. Hong Kong students with diplomas from famous mainland universities such as Peking University and Tsinghua are also recognized to return to Hong Kong for employment. If one day famous schools in the Mainland can be recognized by Hong Kong companies and enterprises to a greater extent, it is unknown that there will be more students in Hong Kong studying in the Mainland. "
