In my mind, cultural research should be through some left-over knowledge and culture, and then someone will study it, or even dig some graves to discover the relative culture! Thus, it has evolved into cultural studies and cultural theories. They may only acquire knowledge from books, so they are different. The former will dig graves and so on, while the latter will only do so through books.
