Which is the correspondent, the asterisk or the pound symbol?
An asterisk. Academic publishing houses and periodicals use asterisks to mark communication authors in the list of article authors, so as to distinguish communication authors from other co-authors. Correspondents are responsible for communicating with editors and readers of periodicals, answering questions about research and providing more information. The pound sign is used for special labeling and does not indicate the author of the communication.
