Waterproof coatings can be divided into many kinds according to their uses. My graduation thesis mainly studies the most widely used building waterproof coatings.
Building waterproof coatings mainly include synthetic polymer materials, asphalt, polymer modified asphalt, inorganic materials and so on. , and mixed with appropriate additives, modified materials, fillers, etc. Compared with waterproof coiled material, waterproof coating is simple in construction, suitable for any shape of base surface, and can form a dense and seamless coating. Therefore, waterproof coatings have been widely used in various waterproof projects and achieved rapid development. The research of this topic is mainly divided into three stages.
1. 1 Preparation work needed for researching new waterproof;
(1) Understand the research status and development prospect of waterproof coatings at home and abroad.
(2) Understand the application status of building waterproof coatings in China, which is insufficient compared with foreign countries.
(3) Further research on waterproof coatings at home and abroad.
(4) Research and application of new waterproof coatings.
(5) Problems still to be solved in the application of waterproof coatings.

2. Background information
2. 1 the concept of building waterproof coating
Building waterproof material is an important part of building materials and belongs to functional materials. The main purpose of using waterproof materials in buildings and structures is to prevent moisture, seepage and leakage.
Building waterproof coating (hereinafter referred to as waterproof coating) is a kind of building waterproof material. When the coating is alone or combined with the reinforcement of the matrix, it is painted or sprayed on the surface of the base layer that needs waterproof treatment in layers, and can form a continuous and seamless coating waterproof layer with a certain thickness at room temperature, which can meet the waterproof and impermeability requirements of roofs, basements, toilets and external walls of industrial and civil buildings. Waterproof coatings are generally made of asphalt, synthetic polymers, synthetic polymers and asphalt, synthetic polymers and cement, or inorganic composite materials as the main film-forming substances, and mixed with appropriate pigments, additives, solvents, etc. They are solvent-based, emulsion-based or reactive, and have no fixed shape when they are in the state of viscous liquid or liquefied solid powder at room temperature. (1) Waterproof coatings are mostly solvent-based and pollute the environment, but the quality of water emulsion polymer modified waterproof coatings is not stable enough.
(2) The mechanical properties, waterproof properties and durability of some polymer waterproof coatings are not ideal.
(3) In order to reduce costs, some manufacturers cut corners and shoddy goods, resulting in a large number of unqualified products flowing into the market.

6. Summary
Although we are in the department of chemistry, we are still far from the waterproof coating of chemical industry. I chose this topic from my own life experience. When I was painting at school during my internship, my classmates really couldn't stand the smell of paint. This coating is a waterproof coating for steel. At that time, I was wondering if there could be an environmentally friendly paint to replace it. There was no such unbearable smell. Later, when I saw this topic, I chose it without hesitation. After I contacted my tutor, I realized that this topic is not very simple and needs good professional knowledge and research spirit. But I can say that I know nothing about this topic, even the simplest components are not clear. I studied the course of chemical retrieval, searched various databases, and learned about the relevant knowledge, preparation methods and formulas of building waterproof coatings, as well as the production places of some related coatings. I also know that some related research has been done in this field at home and abroad at present, which has aroused my interest in this subject. Although I am still an amateur, I believe that interest is the first step to success. In the future, I will make better use of information retrieval as a tool to successfully complete this topic.
However, I still feel inadequate in some places. Like many students, it is foreign language retrieval. I'm not familiar with some English words in this major, which is what I need to improve. I want to be familiar with related English words and communicate with each other in Chinese and English.

Learning the course of literature retrieval has benefited me a lot, and I will no longer waste the data resource library of the school. Knowing how to find some professional documents I need is of great significance to my graduation thesis and future research. Teacher Yang's courseware is very good and much more studious.
However, in teaching, it may vary from person to person, and there are still some places that need to be improved. The classroom atmosphere is sometimes rather dull. To create a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere is conducive to all students' participation in teaching, especially senior students. At the same time, teachers should complete the literature retrieval with their classmates properly, giving more examples and introducing less theoretical knowledge. Literature retrieval is a highly applied course, which allows students to do more homework and remember less theoretical knowledge.
But I learned a lot in this course, which is inseparable from teacher Yang's efforts.
