Professional introduction of life science department?
The Department of Life Sciences was established in 1985, with 48 faculty members, including professors 10 and 9 associate professors. Doctor 1 1, master's degree 27; There are 2 academic leaders in ordinary colleges and universities in Hunan Province, candidates for talent engineering in Hunan Province 12 1, 8 provincial-level young backbone teachers, and 2 tutors for master students.
The Department of Life Sciences has three central and local laboratories, namely, basic biology, biological science and engineering, and landscape ecology and engineering. In 2009, the basic biology laboratory was rated as a demonstration laboratory of basic courses in colleges and universities in Hunan Province. It has a research platform and base for the research and utilization of ethnic medicinal plant resources in Hunan Province, a key laboratory of medicinal plants and ethnobotany in Xiangxi, Hunan Province, a cooperative demonstration base of ethnic medicine research and development in Industry-University-Research in the 11th Five-Year Plan, and a key construction discipline of botany in Hunan Province in the 11th Five-Year Plan. In 2006, bioengineering specialty was identified as the key specialty in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan of Hunan universities, and in 2008, it was identified as the first batch of characteristic majors in Hunan universities. The zoology course won the excellent course in Hunan Province, the botany course won the excellent construction course in Hunan Province, the botany teaching team won the provincial teaching team, and the efficient utilization of the effective components of ethnic medicinal plants won the scientific and technological innovation team of ordinary universities in Hunan Province. There are more than 10 practice bases of universities in and outside Hunan Province, such as excellent practice teaching bases in the 11th Five-Year Plan, innovative experimental points of research and utilization of national medicinal plant resources. The building area of the laboratory is over 8,000 square meters, and the total value of instruments and equipment is over RMB 10.
In the past five years, teachers have presided over 60 scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation, the Ministry of Science and Technology's special project of enriching the people and strengthening the county through science and technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology's science and technology platform project, the National Forestry Department, the Hunan Provincial Natural Science Foundation, and the key projects of the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Plan, and 15 provincial school education reform projects. He applied for 5 national invention patents, won the national invention patent 1 item, transformed scientific and technological achievements 1 item, won new non-crop varieties in Hunan Province 1 item, and won the provincial and school-level teaching achievement award1item. More than 300 scientific research papers have been published in academic journals at home and abroad, including 27 SCI papers and 5 EI papers/KLOC-0.
The Department of Life Sciences attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' comprehensive ability and quality, and has trained applied talents engaged in biotechnology and engineering with solid professional knowledge, outstanding practical ability and high comprehensive quality. The employment rate of graduates is above 95% every year. In recent years, the proportion of students studying for master's degree is over 40%, and in 2008, the proportion of students studying for master's degree reached 58%. Students participated in the Challenge Cup Science and Technology Competition for College Students, and won 3 third prizes in Hunan Province and more than 30 huaihua university prizes. Students have achieved excellent results in various cultural and sports activities, and won the first place in the school sports meeting, basketball, volleyball, football, badminton, chess, Go and tug-of-war for many times.
At present, there are four undergraduate majors: bioengineering, bioscience, landscape architecture, food science and engineering.
1, bioengineering
Training objective: to train applied technical talents of bioengineering who can master the basic knowledge of life science, principles of system science, technological process and engineering technology of biotechnology and its industrialization, and engage in design, production, management, new technology research and new product development in the field of biotechnology and engineering.
Professional direction: fermentation engineering and biopharmaceuticals.
2. Biological Sciences
Training objective: to train applied professionals with solid basic theories, basic knowledge and experimental skills in life sciences, strong innovative consciousness and ability, high comprehensive quality and strong adaptability, who can engage in scientific research or teaching in scientific research institutions and secondary schools, and engage in related research, technology development and production management in enterprises and units in agriculture, forestry and other related industries.
Professional direction: biological education and biotechnology.

Training objective: To train applied professionals with basic theories, knowledge and skills in ecology, garden plants and ornamental horticulture, landscape planning and design, with high comprehensive quality, innovative consciousness and ability, who can engage in the planning, design, construction, reproduction, cultivation, maintenance and management of scenic spots, forest parks and various garden green spaces in cities, gardens, forestry departments and flower enterprises.
Professional direction: landscape applied ecology, landscape design, landscape plants and landscape engineering.
4. Food Science and Engineering
Training objectives: This major trains advanced applied professionals with knowledge and skills in chemistry, biology, food chemistry, food engineering principles and food processing and storage technology, who can engage in product development, production technology management, process design, quality inspection, teaching and scientific research in food enterprises or universities, scientific research institutes, customs commodity inspection and quality supervision departments.
Professional direction: food nutrition and safety and food processing.
