Umbilical hernia refers to the external abdominal hernia in which the contents of abdominal cavity protrude from the weak area of navel. Umbilical cord is located in the middle of abdominal wall, which is the latest part of abdominal wall to close during embryonic development. The lack of adipose tissue in the umbilical region directly connects the outermost skin, fascia and peritoneum of the abdominal wall, making it the weakest part of all abdominal walls, from which abdominal contents easily protrude to form umbilical hernia.

Early surgical treatment is desirable, and immediate emergency surgery is necessary. Make a transverse oval incision around the navel, separate the hernia sac to the neck, separate the adhesion, cut it off at the neck of the hernia sac, and remove the hernia sac together with the tightly adhered omentum and excess skin. Free the transverse fascia and peritoneum around the hernia ring as much as possible. The rectus abdominis and its aponeurosis are separated on the upper and lower sides by transverse seams, and overlapped and stitched if necessary.
