The experimental teaching conditions are complete, the instruments and equipment are advanced, and the experimental research conditions of new ship materials and welding disciplines have entered the advanced ranks of similar professional points in China. This subject has Jiangsu Advanced Welding Technology Key Laboratory, Jiangsu Modern Welding Technology Science and Technology Public Service Platform, Jiangsu Material Science and Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center and Jiangsu Chemical Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, and enjoys Jiangsu Advanced Ship Design and Manufacturing Technology Key Laboratory. It is the supporting unit of the former Key Laboratory of Efficient Welding of China Shipbuilding Corporation (ministerial level) and the former construction unit of the Research and Application Center of Special Welding Technology and Large Structural Parts of the Science, Technology and Industry Committee for National Defense.

Over the years, we have maintained regular academic exchanges and cooperation with some academic groups, universities and research institutions in China, the United States, Canada, Japan, Russia, Ukraine and other countries. It is well-known in the shipbuilding industry and Jiangsu Province, and has a certain influence in academic circles at home and abroad. This discipline is affiliated unit and governing unit of Jiangsu Welding Society, deputy director unit of professional committee of fusion welding technology and equipment of China Welding Society, expert member unit of standardization technical committee of China welding machine and academic committee of materials of China Shipbuilding Engineering Society, and executive governing unit of professional committee of heat treatment of Jiangsu Province. He is also the governing unit of China Materials Research Society, China Metal Society, China Welding Society, China Shipbuilding Industry Association and China Material Network, and a senior member of China Mechanical Engineering Society.

This subject is oriented to shipbuilding, ordnance, transportation, machinery, chemical industry, metallurgy, energy and other major fields. This subject focuses on the theoretical and technical research on welding technology and equipment, the formation and application of new materials, nano-materials and nanostructures, new functional materials, material physics and chemistry. Research on new arc welding power supply, efficient welding of ships, connection between new materials and dissimilar materials, non-ferrous metal materials and special steel for ships, special copper alloy materials, coating and thermal insulation materials for ships, high-performance nanomaterials, shape memory alloys, new functional composite materials, material corrosion and protection, etc. , it has formed a remarkable feature. Many research results have been applied in shipbuilding, electric power, steel, chemical industry, automobile and other industries, and some theoretical and technical problems have been solved.
