Are polymer materials and engineering sinkholes?
Hello, my classmates. I am a junior in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. At present, I have been exposed to polymer materials in the course, and polymer is only a small direction of materials science, so I know a little. The following is my personal opinion on the professional direction of polymer materials engineering.

Because the whole material major belongs to the slow-heating type, polymers are no exception, so I personally suggest not to work after graduation, and I suggest taking the postgraduate entrance examination. There are many directions of materials, such as polymers, metals, inorganic nonmetals, metallurgy, physical and chemical composites, and many finer powders. As far as our school is concerned, although the major of materials is divided into detailed directions, the courses of materials are basically the same. The following is the usual schedule. It can be seen that in fact, the undergraduate course of materials science is very one-sided and basically learns everything. If it is a polymer material, you should also learn organic polymer chemistry, polymer materials, plastic molding technology, machinery manufacturing foundation and so on. Generally, polymers in this science are designed to lay a solid foundation for you in the future. As for the employment prospects, you can do some research and development of polymer materials after studying polymers (of course, the premise is to study for graduate students or doctors). The salary is at least 1w+. If you want to graduate, you might as well study logistics computer and other majors.

The postgraduate entrance examination rate of materials major is very high, because the undergraduate course is too shallow, but the prospect of postgraduate entrance examination is good, especially for polymer materials major, which is easy to produce papers and the salary of graduate students is not bad, so as long as the subject has the intention of postgraduate entrance examination, you can consider this major, which is still very fragrant. Whether the material major is a sinkhole depends on whether you want to drill deep. The above is my personal opinion on this major, please forgive me if there are any shortcomings.
