The development of dashes

Heng Chang has many uses in the history of western punctuation marks, and it was shaped and popularized as a dash in the17 ~18th century. Tiret, the modern name of French dash, first appeared in 1554, which originated from the verb tiret (draw a line).

English dashes appeared in the second half of17th century.
