The Origin of Kweichow Moutai
The origin of Kweichow Moutai;

In Maotai Town, it is said that the indigenous Pu people of Chishui River were good at making wine in the ancient Dayu era. In the Han dynasty, there was the "gourd sauce wine" in Maotai Town today. "Zunyi County Records" contains: Gourd sauce is the beginning of wine.

Sima Qian recorded in Historical Records that in the sixth year of Jianyuan (before 135), Emperor Wu ordered Tang Meng to go to South Vietnam, and Tang Meng drank the sauce wine produced in South Vietnam (now Renhuai County where Maotai Town is located) and brought it back to Chang 'an to pay tribute to Emperor Wu, who drank it "sweetly" and left "Tang Meng to drink the sauce wine".

This became the beginning of Moutai coming out of the mountains, and it became famous as a tribute of the imperial court. After the Tang and Song Dynasties, Moutai gradually became the tribute wine of the dynasties, and spread overseas through the Southern Silk Road. In the Qing Dynasty, the liquor industry in Maotai Town flourished, and famous wines such as "Maotai Spring", "Maotai Burning Spring" and "Sha Tong Maotai" were well known. Hua Mao is the predecessor of Moutai.

In the 43rd year of Kangxi (1704), Zhuosheng Shaofang officially named its wine Maotai. According to the records of the old Zunyi Prefecture in the Qing Dynasty, during the Daoguang period, "Maotai burned down no less than 20 houses and paid no less than 20,000 stone for food." In the twenty-third year of Daoguang (1843), the Qing Dynasty poet Zhengzhen praised Maotai as "a country where people are crowned with wine".

Before 1949, the output of Moutai declined, and there were only three wineries, namely "Cheng Yi Winery" funded by Hua surname, which was called "Hua Mao"; The Ronghe Wine House sponsored by Wang Xing is called Elvis Presley.

Hengxing Brewery funded by Lai Xing is called "Lai Mao". 195 1 year, the government merged three private breweries, namely Cheng Yi (Hua Mao), Ronghe (Elvis Presley) and Hengxing (Lai Mao), by means of redemption, confiscation and takeover, and implemented the policy of "three hairs in one"-the state-owned Maotai Distillery was established.
