Generally, when tagging references, click to insert references-footnotes and endnotes-at the end of the quoted text, and select only endnotes. References should be endnotes. Select Insert-References-Footnotes and Endnotes from the menu. Footnotes are notes at the bottom of a page of an article, while endnotes are at the end of the article.
