The biggest and most obvious disadvantage of ionic liquids is that they easily absorb moisture in the air. Even hydrophobic ionic liquids (such as bmimpf6) can strongly absorb moisture in the air. Some ionic liquids will react with water after absorbing water (such as bmic), and the properties of those ionic liquids that do not react (such as wide electrochemical window and thermal stability) will also be absorbed by water.
