Confucius stresses the doctrine of the mean, while Laozi stresses inaction. Why is it not suitable for the present society?
Doing nothing is not doing nothing, otherwise how can you live? I just hope that everyone will not stay at a certain stage of development. The doctrine of the mean is certainly developing, or there is no problem with the progress and development of social technology. It just means that people should not go too far, take the middle road and make steady progress.

Obviously, Laozi's stopping development is the conclusion after deep thinking and overall grasp of the world; Confucius' doctrine of the mean is much smaller. He basically ignored the problems of the world, but only considered the social problems of people, hoping that people's behavior would not be like some social phenomena that had already appeared at that time, such as killing the king and usurping the throne. For Confucius, trespassing is intolerable, let alone regicide. Strictly following the rules of etiquette is the golden mean, and it is best to go its own way.

To say the essential difference between the two, Lao Tzu considers the way of world change and hopes that human beings can show their state according to the way of the world; Confucius asked people to act according to the way formulated by the sages, that is, the etiquette system formulated by the Duke of Zhou. It is not inaction, but a harmonious and reasonable move that does not act privately, act rashly, violate the laws of nature, let nature take its course and conform to the times.

Wuwei is a comprehensive exposition of Wuwei. "inaction" and "inaction" are dialectical and perfect unity, and they are not contradictory. On the basis of accurately grasping Laozi's thought of "doing nothing without doing anything", this paper puts forward some views on Mr. Zhang Zhenguo's article "Doing nothing without doing anything-the choice of combining rigidity with softness". The way of discussion is not a general direct criticism, but mainly an "appendix" to introduce the great influence of Laozi in the world and see its "universality", so as to dispel people's misunderstanding of Laozi and Taoism.
