What does this Yi language mean?
Yi language belongs to the Yi branch of Sino-Tibetan language family. There are two dialect areas in the state: one is the south-central dialect centered on Maitreya, also known as the southeast dialect, including Luxi, Maitreya, Kaiyuan, Mengzi and a part of Pingbian; The other is the southern dialect represented by Shiping, namely the dialects of Shiping, Jianshui, Yuanyang, Honghe, Jinping, Luchun, Mengzi, Pingbian and Hekou. In two dialect areas, there are power dialects and some dialects. Yi languages in different dialect areas are different, making communication difficult. Such is the language contrast between Nisu, Azhe and Puwa.
